Don’t Be Happy It’s Coming!

Hosea 9:1 (NIV) – DO NOT REJOICE, Israel; do not be jubilant like the other nations. For you have been unfaithful to your God; you love the wages of a prostitute at every threshing floor.

Hosea 9:7 (NIV) – THE DAYS OF PUNISHMENT ARE COMING, the days of reckoning are at hand. Let Israel know this. Because your sins are so many and your hostility so great, the prophet is considered a fool, the inspired person a maniac.

Hosea addresses Israelites who seem to be thriving so well, yet they are so evil. They are excelling in many ways, yet they live a life contrary to God’s will. Prophet Hosea warns them not to rejoice because all is well in their sinful state. Do not rejoice! 

Hosea tells them not to be jubilant like other nations. Other nations are jubilant because in ignorance they do not know that they have offended God. Israel knows they are offending God. Israel is jubilant because they have not suffered punishment. Hosea warns them not to compare themselves with other ignorant nations. Do not be jubilant like other nations!

Hosea tells them that the days of punishment are coming. Delay of punishment shouldn’t make them rejoice, thinking the punishment won’t come. Do not rejoice, the days of punishment are coming!

Delayed punishment may make sinners comfortable and happy in sin. Delay of punishment may make sinners to actually think they are not sinful. Do not be misled by delayed punishment. Do not rejoice, the days of punishment are coming!

You stole money. You are living comfortably. You have not been caught or accused of stealing. Your connections have covered you. Do not rejoice, the days of punishment are coming!

You break hearts as you use and abuse people you relate with. You always have your way. You are a king or queen of love affairs. You are only enjoying. Others shed tears because of you, but you care less. No one has called you to account. Do not rejoice, the days of punishment are coming!

You are a ruthless person. Merciless person. Everyone around you trembles. People around you live in fear. You only care about yourself. The only way people around you can be happy is to do what you want which they don’t want. You are happy while people who must be around you are unhappy. Do not rejoice, the days of punishment are coming!

You are selfish. Stingy. You hoard and grow rich. You help no one. You have a philosophy and a mantra to justify your actions. You are a happy person. Do not rejoice, the days of punishment are coming!

You break the laws of God. You know what the Bible teaches but you avoid obeying it because it is not convenient. Your life is so far so good. You are happy with your unbiblical lifestyle. Do not rejoice, the days of punishment are coming!

You have excelled in exams by cheating. You have climbed ranks by dishonest methods. You are happy and satisfied. Do not rejoice, the days of punishment are coming!

This is the message of prophet Hosea to Israelites and to you and me. Do not rejoice, the days of punishment are coming! Dear God save us today before the days of punishment come. Lead us to repent and completely change our ways. In Jesus name, Amen!
