He Knows Us By Name and Everything Else 

Acts 9:4 (NIV) – He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “SAUL, SAUL, why do you persecute me?”

Acts 9:10 (NIV) – In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “ANANIAS!” “Yes, Lord,” he answered.

Each one of us has a name that uniquely identifies us. There is a name we respond to. When we introduce ourselves to others, we tell them our names and they tell us their names. Knowing someone’s name is the beginning of knowing someone.

We do not expect everyone to know our names. Only the famous and infamous people are known by name by many people, because their stories and lives are public. It’s a privilege if the high and mighty know your name, because it means they know you and can easily be of help. 

The great God who made heavens and earth knows all of us by our names and circumstances. God knows our names because He knows us. We are not strangers to God. We do not need to introduce ourselves to Him, He knows us and everything else about us.

When God chose to confront Saul on his way to Damascus, He calls Saul by name. He asks Saul about his persecution activities. This demonstrated to Saul that God knows us and knows our names and everything about us.

When God sends Ananias to meet Saul, restore his sight and baptize him, God calls Ananias by name. God tells Ananias that Saul is with you in Damascus. God knows our current location and He knows our name. God knows everything about us!

We are personally known to God. God knows us more than anyone else knows us. Isn’t it God who told Samson’s parents how Samson should be handled? God knew Samson better than his parents. God spoke to the parents of John the Baptist about the life of John. God knew John the Baptist more than his parents. God knows us more than anyone else knows us!

God knows us more than we know ourselves. God told Jeremiah about his past, present and future. God knew Jeremiah before he was conceived. God knew Jeremiah was young at present. God tells Jeremiah about his future, that he will serve God by speaking to nations. God knew Jeremiah more than he knew himself. God knows us more than we know ourselves.

God knows our relatives and friends. God knows the current location and circumstances of our relatives and friends. God tells Moses after forty years that your brother Aaron is on the way coming to see you. God tells Mary that your relative Elizabeth is pregnant. God intervenes when Abraham’s wife is taken by Abimeleck and Pharaoh. God knows that the Samaritan woman had several husbands, and even the current one is not hers. God knows our relatives and friends and their circumstances.

God is great and lifted up, but God is also your friend. He is high and far beyond our ability to comprehend, yet He is so loving and close enough to know our names and circumstances. We are loved and cared for by a mighty awesome God. He knows our names and daily, yes DAILY circumstances!

Thank you mighty God! You know our names and our daily circumstances. You have a plan for each one of us. You created us for a purpose. May your will be done for each one of us daily. In Jesus name, Amen!
