Joshua 6:27 – So the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.

6:27  God was with Joshua. He became famous all over the land. (Message Bible)

We still read about Joshua approximately 3,300years later.what else can famous mean? The Bible tells us that Joshua’s fame spread throughout the land, and even today we are talking about him. In our text today we have a lesson on how to be famous.

Famous means you are known by a majority of the people. Famous means you are known for something good by majority of the people. In our text today we have a lesson on how to be famous.

Infamous means you are known for something bad by a majority of the people. A criminal may be well known for crimes, such a criminal is not famous, such a criminal is infamous. In our text today we have a lesson on how to be famous.

Self preservation is part of our instincts and traits. Being famous and unfortunately infamous is part of the attempt to be preserved in societal memory. We desire to leave a mark in society. We desire to be remembered. Being famous becomes an avenue for us to be remembered. In our text today we have a lesson on how to be famous.

In an attempt to be remembered we attempt strenuous things in order to make it into the Guinness book of records. In an attempt to be remembered we name people, buildings, schools, places after us. In our text today we have a lesson on how to be famous.

We get excited when our pictures appear in newspapers for good reasons. We get excited whenever we appear on public television. We desire to be known by as many people as possible. In our text today we have a lesson on how to be famous.

Some totally avoid publicity. They want to be known for being unknown. He never had a phone or number. She doesn’t have social media accounts. He is carefully rare no one has his current picture. She is so private, her family is unknown in public. Known widely for being unknowable. In our text today we have a lesson on how to be famous.

Desire to be known as self preservation may not be obvious. It runs in the background but it influences us. This desire has led to many young people doing the things that are obviously wrong in order to attract attention to themselves. They would defy community norms and offend morality stands in order to gain a name. In our text today we have a lesson on how to be famous.

The Bible lesson is a better and sure way of being famous. Other ways maybe short lived fame that leaves you in shame for longer periods of time. You gain fame for embarrassing stunts online but you leave a negative impression about yourself online for all your generations to hate being associated with you. You even cause employers to avoid you. They won’t tell you why you can’t be hired because of legal issues. You cause those who issue travel visas to avoid you. Be careful how you seek to be famous in our digital age. In our text today we have a lesson on how to be famous.

God was with Joshua and consequently his fame spread all over the land. Joshua’s fame was a consequence of being with God. Be with God and in His own ways and time, He will make you famous. In our text today we have a lesson on how to be famous.

You don’t have to oppose your religious leaders and teachings to satisfy desires for fame. You don’t have to be religiously extreme to capture attention of the public. You don’t have to post sexually explicit content to get views online. In our text today we have a lesson on how to be famous.

Avoid arrogance online in an attempt to stand out as a ruthless bully. Avoid exposing your nakedness in dress and online presence just to attract views. Being a black sheep of a family may earn you attention but in the long run you lose out. Confronting government for fame can be life threatening considering that some governments are totalitarian. Dying in a spectacular way is short lived. After a short while that becomes a wasted life and death. Leaving an elaborate suicide note won’t cause you to be remembered. In our text today we have a lesson on how to be famous.

When you seek fame you will not get it and even if you find it, it will be short lived or infamy. Genuine sacrifices made to help humanity can lead to fame. Freedom fighters are an example of those who risked everything they had to liberate others. Great achievements in your hobby and discipline can make one unforgettable. However, God has to be in it, or else it won’t be satisfying as it should.

Genesis 12:2 – “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I WILL MAKE YOUR NAME GREAT, and you will be a blessing.

Let God make you famous. Stick with God and it shall come to pass. Tell God you want to be famous. God promised to make names great. Tell God to make your name great. The God who did it for Joshua will do it for you. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
