Limited Power Is No power!

Exodus 8:6 – So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land.

Exodus 8:7 – But the magicians did the same things by their secret arts; they also made frogs come up on the land of Egypt.

Exodus 8:8 – Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray to the LORD to take the frogs away from me and my people, and I will let your people go to offer sacrifices to the LORD.”

When Aaron and Moses went before Pharaoh to ask for Israelites to be set free, a contest for the most powerful God started. Pharaoh felt that letting the Israelites go would be yielding to the command of the God of Israel, yet Egyptians had their own gods and Pharaoh was one of them. God brought the plagues to show His power over Egyptians.

For some of the plagues, Egyptians could reproduce them. The later plagues were exclusively hurting Egyptians and not Israelites. God was demonstrating that He can differentiate between His people and those who are not His people. God even knew Egyptians who were loyal to Him.

When Aaron and Moses caused the frogs to multiply all over the land, the Egyptian magicians did it too. The Egyptians did it to prove that what Moses and Aaron did wasn’t a big deal. They were down playing the power of the God of Israel.

The Egyptians ability was soon exposed to be too limited when they discovered that they could cause the frogs to multiply but they couldn’t stop the frogs. They couldn’t reverse the frogs they had brought. They couldn’t remove the frogs they brought. The frogs were now a nuisance but they were helpless.

Pharaoh was forced to swallow his pride and seek help from the God of Israel. Pharaoh who witnessed his magicians multiply frogs, soon discovered that their power was limited. When it comes to divinity, limited power is no power. A true God has unlimited power.

Evil people can do a lot but they are limited. They can start a process but they can’t stop it. They can demonstrate their power, but very soon, God demonstrates that they have limited power.

Do not fear evil powerful people. What they can do is all they can do and soon they cant move on or undo what they desperately want undone. They are limited and will soon discover that what they call power isn’t power. Limited Power looks like power but in reality its no power!

When you have limited power, be humble and do the will of God who has unlimited power. When you have limited power do not abuse it and frustrate others with it. Limited power looks like power but in reality its no power!

If you hold an elective office, that is limited power. If you hold an office in which you were appointed, that is limited power. If you are in a position you have received through merit and qualification, that is limited power. If you are in a relational position, like friend, relative, parent, child, etc., that is limited power. If you are in a position because of your gifts, talents, and physical abilities, that is limited power. There are many things you can do with that limited power, but there are things you can’t do with limited power. There is a limit you can’t cross. Limited power looks like power but over time in reality its no power!

All human powers are limited. Even experts who solve problems like security experts, medical workers, fire fighters, etc., they have limited power. They can do great things that we greatly appreciate, but sooner or later we discover that their power is limited. At some point they are helpless and have to watch helplessly as events unfold. At this point, only God can step in and change the situation.

The brothers of Joseph were older than him. They were physically powerful than him. They incited each other against Joseph, therefore they had numbers, number power against Joseph. They sold Joseph hoping never to see or hear from him again. Their power was limited. Many years later they were at the mercy of Joseph begging for food. Their power had vanished. Limited power looks like power but over time in reality its no power!

An educated high ranking officer is powerful. Such a person cannot be compared to a motor boat operator in a lake. However while in a lake and a storm comes, the power matrix shifts suddenly. The experienced swimmer who is the boat operator becomes powerful. But when the boat lands on dry ground, power shifts. Power goes back to the officer. Both their powers are limited!

We should relate with people consciously accepting that we have limited power. We should relate and depend upon God who has unlimited power. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
