Exodus 8:15 – But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.
The plagues were miracles that God performed through Moses. These plagues caused a nuisance to an extent that Pharaoh was forced to consider against his will to release Israelites to leave Egypt. These plagues also proved that the God of Israel is powerful and cannot be compared to the gods of Egypt.
Every time a plague became a real nuisance to Pharaoh and Egyptian, Pharaoh sought relief by promising to release Israelites as soon as the plagues were lifted. In our text today, frogs had become a menace everywhere. Pharaoh sought help from Moses and promised to release Israelites as God demanded. Pharaoh promised that as soon as the plague was lifted, he would listen to Moses and Aaron and let Israelites go.
Moses prayed to God and the frogs ceased troubling Egyptians. The Bible tells us that as soon as Pharaoh had relief, he changed his mind and refused to honour his promise to Moses, Aaron and God. Relief from problems destroyed his faith.
When Pharaoh was under immense pressure of plagues being a constant nuisance, he had faith that God was powerful and only the God of Israel could help him. As soon as he had relief from that pressure his faith failed. Relief from problems destroyed his faith!
