Esther 8:1-2 (NIV) – 1 That same day King Xerxes gave Queen Esther the estate of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came into the presence of the king, for Esther had told how he was related to her. 2 The king took off his signet ring, which he had reclaimed from Haman, and presented it to Mordecai. And Esther appointed him over Haman’s estate.
No situation is permanent. The Bible tells us that Mordecai and Esther who were slaves in the Person kingdom had their situation change. They moved from the periphery of life in Persia to being insiders in the kingdom. No situation is permanent!
Mordecai and Esther were cousins. Mordecai was older and he took care of Esther as she grew up. When the king fired the queen, he started a process to replace the queen, and Esther was shortlisted. Mordecai warned Esther to hide her identity and even relationship with him. The situation was fragile and her identity and relationship would have threatened her life. That was the situation but no situation is permanent.
Esther 2:10 (NIV) – Esther had not revealed her nationality and family background, because Mordecai had forbidden her to do so.
Esther 2:19-20 (NIV) – 19 When the virgins were assembled a second time, Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate. 20 But Esther had kept secret her family background and nationality just as Mordecai had told her to do, for she continued to follow Mordecai’s instructions as she had done when he was bringing her up.
Esther found herself in a situation where it wasn’t safe to reveal one’s relationships nor identity. No situation is permanent. When we get to Esther chapter eight as quoted above, Esther’s situation has changed. She has revealed her identity as a Jew. She has revealed that Mordecai is her guardian and cousin. What was hidden, had now been exposed, because no situtation is permanent.
Esther 4:1-2 (NIV) – 1 When Mordecai learned of all that had been done, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the city, wailing loudly and bitterly. 2 But he went only as far as the king’s gate, because no one clothed in sackcloth was allowed to enter it.
Mordecai as a slave wasn’t well dressed, but no situation is permanent. Mordecai on learning that Haman had deceived the king to pass a law that would have Jews killed and their property taken and or destroyed, went about wailing. Mordecai dressed in sackcloth and ashes. He didn’t look good, he was desperate, but no situation is permanent.
Esther 8:15 (NIV) – When Mordecai left the king’s presence, he was wearing royal garments of blue and white, a large crown of gold and a purple robe of fine linen. And the city of Susa held a joyous celebration.
Towards the end of the story in the book of Esther, we meet Mordecai dressed in royal clothes. Not just good clothes but royal clothes. Not just expensive clothes but royal clothes. His situation had changed from poorly dressed and, in sackcloth and ashes to royalty. No situation is permanent.
The Mordecai who was crying and wailing at the kings gate is now recorded as dining with the king and having celebration parties in Susa. The situation of wailing changed to the situation of celebration. No situation is permanent!
Esther and Mordecai started off as Jews born in salvery. They had nothing and owned nothing. Yet the Bible now records that their situation changed so that they now owned a wealthy estate in Persia. From the situation of poverty to the situation of abundance. No situation is permanent.
Job was extremely rich and living happily with his family, but the situation changed and he found himself in poverty and sickness. No situation is permanent. Later on Job became a wealthy and healthy man again. No situation is permanent.
Jesus was celebrated by the crowd as He rode a donkey into Jerusalem. They sang praises to Him. Later on that same week, the same crowd asked that Jesus dies by crucifixion while Barabbas a violent robber is set free. The situation changed from being praised to being condemned. No situation is permanent. Jesus suffered greatly on Thursday night and died on Friday when He was crucified. That was a terrible situation. Yet on Sunday morning, Jesus resurrected in victory. The situation had just changed for the better. No situation is permanent.
We live in a world where the situation will keep changing from bad to good and from good to bad. No situation in this life is permanent. However Jesus has promised to return to our world and for the last time change the situation permanently, never to review again. When the world comes to an end, God will create a new heaven and a new earth and the situation will be permanently good! Eternally permanent and good for the matter!
Meanwhile let us persevere through various situations. In pain and frustration, a bad situation seems permanent. It seems like it is taking forever for things to change. Do not give up. Hang in there. Even if it seems it has taken too long, that situation will change. No situation is permanent.
Don’t give up. No situation is permanent. Don’t kill yourself. No situation is permanent. Don’t quit. No situation is permanent. Keep trying the impossible will happen. No situation is permanent.
May God make a bad situation that seems permanent to suddenly change until we all testify that by God’s grace, no situation is permanent. May God help us to avoid pride and arrogance when things are good, by reminding us that no situation is permanent. May God grant us patience and perseverance in tough times, by reminding us that no situation is permanent. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
