Luke 7:33 – For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’
Luke 7:34 – The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’
Luke 7:35 – But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”
Fault finding can be trouble shooting of a problem in a system. However, we want to focus on faultfinding as an obsession to highlight what is wrong to the extent of being petty and trivial. A faultfinder gains satisfaction in showing that there is a fault.
Fault finding could be an aspect of pessimism. Looking at life from what is wrong. Looking for faults. A refusal to consider that something positive exists. Turning a blind eye to the good and shining the limelight on weaknesses and mistakes.
Jesus demonstrates that faultfinders will never see this particular thing. Jesus says that when John the Baptist came, faultfinders accused him of having a demon because of his ascetic life. When Jesus came and freely interacted with people, fault finders accused Him of being a glutton, drunkard and a friend of sinners.
When faultfinders saw John the Baptist having a thriving ministry, they did not highlight his success, they instead focused on what they thought was wrong. They accused John the Baptist of being antisocial. Yet when Jesus came and was social, they did not praise His ministry that reached everybody everywhere. They accused Jesus of not being reserved like John the Baptist. You can’t satisfy fault finders.
The reason you can’t satisfy fault finders is because they shift goal posts. They ignore what you have and demand what you don’t have. The moment you have what they asked for, they will claim it’s not adequate or they will downplay it and make more demands. A faultfinder changes goals to sustain their satisfaction that you have faults.
A fault finder cannot appreciate anything good because it nullifies their focus on faults. A fault finder will never see anything good in anyone or anything.
Revelation 12:10 – Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For THE ACCUSER OF OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS, WHO ACCUSES THEM BEFORE OUR GOD DAY AND NIGHT, has been hurled down.
The Bible presents Satan as a fault finder. He is known as the accuser. A constant accuser. A day and night accuser. A fault finder per excellence! At the end the accuser is a loser who ends up in hell fires. At the end all fault finders are losers who will end up destroyed in hell. Satan and his fellow fault finders will never see anything positive or good in anyone or anything!
Job 1:8 – Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”
Job 1:9 – “Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied.
Job 1:10 – “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.
Job 1:11 – But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”
Job 2:3 – Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.”
Job 2:4 – “Skin for skin!” Satan replied. “A man will give all he has for his own life.
Job 2:5 – But now stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face.”
God saw the good in Job. Satan saw the faults and the negatives. Satan refused to acknowledge anything positive in Job. Satan only saw faults.
Genesis 1:31 – GOD SAW ALL THAT HE HAD MADE, AND IT WAS VERY GOOD. And there was evening, and there was morning —the sixth day.
God prefers to see the positive. God saw that all He had made was very good. Very positive. While Satan is negative looking at mistakes and failures. A faultfinder per excellence!
Abraham failed in the Hagar matter, Abimelech and Pharaoh matters, but God looked at Him positively. God condemned the wrong and rectified Abraham but still focused on the good. Fault finders will never see anything positive or good in anyone or anything!
David killed Uriah and committed adultery with Bathsheba. He had enough faults for faultfinders. Yet God chooses to see the positive, and calls him a personal friend, a man after God’s own heart. Fault finders will never see anything positive or good in anyone or anything!
What do you see in your colleagues at work? What do you see in your school mates? What do you see in your relatives and friends? Are you a fault finder like Satan or you see the positive like God? Fault finders will never see anything positive or good in anyone or anything!
What do you see in your spouse? Faults or the positive? Fault finders will never see anything positive or good in anyone or anything!
What do you see in your parents? Faults or the positive? Fault finders will never see anything positive or good in anyone or anything!
What do you see in your boss? What do you see in your leaders? What do you see in your juniors? Fault finders will never see anything positive or good in anyone or anything!
What do you see in your church? What comments do you make online? Fault finders will never see anything positive or good in anyone or anything!
Dear God forgive me for being obsessed with fault finding. Save me from this satanic tendency and give me the view that God has for people and circumstances. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
