Because of sin, not everything we see and experience is running according to God’s will and intentions. There is what God intended and did. There is also what we chose contrary to God’s will and we are experiencing it.
Our Bible text today tells us that there is what God did. It was simple, straightforward, good and understandable. What God did was uncomplicated.
The Bible also tells us today that there is what is the result of our choices and involvement. That which is directly attributed to us. It’s complicated, it’s twisted, it’s tangled up and hard to crack!
Matthew 5:37 – All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
God likes it simple and clear. Jesus wants us to be equally simple, clear and straightforward. Our yes should just be yes and no should just be no. When it goes beyond that, Jesus said it is no longer God inspired but satanic.
Bible verses should be simple and clear to understand. Casual reading should give the meaning. At most another verse should be able to explain it. If interpretation of the verse goes beyond the obvious reading and only some “expert” gives a long complicated interpretation- that is no longer God’s word.
What is the simple straightforward reading of the Bible on difficult topics? When Jesus commands us to baptize people in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, isn’t that simple and straightforward? When the second command is against use of images, statues and idols in worship, isn’t that straightforward and simple? Any other complicated explanation is from the devil.
When the Bible explains the Sabbath to be the day after Good Friday when Jesus died. Then the Bible calls Sunday when Jesus resurrected, the first day of the week. If Sunday is first day of the week and Friday is the day before the Sabbath, isn’t the Sabbath Saturday? Simple and straightforward. The Bible has no command for Sunday to be kept as a day of worship. Any other long unbiblical explanation can’t be from God!
The person you are dating for marriage should just be obviously and outrightly good. If you must give complicated excuses for him or her, you are making a mistake. If you have an investment to make. How are you investing? How will the money be made exactly? Every business has risks, therefore what are the risks? If the explanations are amorphous and complicated, you will regret in the near future. You should be able to understand in simple straightforward way what your money is going to exactly. Where will that huge profit come from? How much is the broker making for you to get that much money? What goods or services are involved? Does the broker look well off as a beneficiary of this good business? Any complicated answers are satanic and regrettable!
Someone will help you go abroad? With Visa complications? With scarce jobs? With straightforward ways not working? With themselves and their relatives not gone abroad? If someone engages in suspicious behavior, cheating in relationships or stealing money or whatever, what is the explanation? It should be simple and straightforward and sensible. If it’s complicated and mind boggling, it’s suspicious and it’s not from God. Complicated means guilty as charged!
May God lead us to straightforward and simple ways. May God save us from complications that are regrettable. May God make us simple and straightforward people. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
