Luke 8:11-15 (NIV) – 11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
What the soil is composed of determines the outcome. The seed is the same but the outcome varies. The sower is the same but the outcome varies. What you are made of determines the outcome. Your true colors determine the outcome.
We may all masquerade as good soil but that is not what we are made of. Some are soil but with more rocks than soil. Some are soil but more of a hardened path. Some are soil but their true colors is that they are more thorny. Some are soil and the are made of fertility that is productive. What kind of soil are you? What are you made of? What are your true colors?
We all seat to worship and listen to the same preaching. We all claim to believe the same Bible. We all pledge allegiance to the same Jesus, but we are not the same. That difference determines the outcome.
The fate of the seed depended on the composition of the soil. Soil on the path was too hard and exposed the seed to birds who ate the seeds. Soil on the thorns exposed thee germinating seeds to choking situations. Jesus said we are the soil of different kinds. Our Christian growth depends on who we are. What are our true colors? What are we made of?
We can all claim to be believers but some end up in heaven and others in hell. It depends on how we handle the seed that we receive. Your true colors are exposed after you receive the seed – the word of God. What you are made off shows off after you receive the seed.
After receiving the word- do you accept it or criticize the messenger? After receiving the word do you critique it until it has no hold on you because you convince yourself that you know better. After receiving the word, are you resistant to change? Do you embrace the word as a message from God to you and therefore do your best to apply it? How you treat the word shows who you are and your true colors!
1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NIV) – And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, YOU ACCEPTED IT NOT AS A HUMAN WORD, BUT AS IT ACTUALLY IS, THE WORD OF GOD, which is indeed at work in you who believe.
How do you receive the word of God? Is your first reaction a predetermined attitude towards the preacher preventing you from accepting God’s or accepting it with diligence? How do you receive the word of God? Is this your opportunity to show that you know it too and you know better? Is it an opportunity to start an argument in the name of discussion? Do you receive it as God’s message to you? It all depends on what you are made of, or your true colors!
Unless we are humble enough to listen, God’s word will be a blessing to others but not to us. Others will be blessed after reading or listening but we go cursed and worse off. Worship will be a place of blessings for others but for us a curse. Are we humble teachable or proud know it all masquerading with a shallow veneer of humility? Who are you really? What are your true colors? What are you made of?
Dear God change me from who I am to who you want me to be. I recognize that who I am can prevent blessings from coming to me. May I be made of soil where seeds germinate into a blessing for me and others. Save me from secret pride and arrogance. Make me humble and fertile. In Jesus’s name, Amen!

Amen, lesson well received. when I was growing especially in faith, I was warned against speaking ill of God’s servants and underestimating others, I pray that I may continue in this obedience even to other aspects that strengthen faith. Indeed, you can always see good soil version of humans among faithful Christians (knowing them by their fruits).
Amen! Happy and prosperous new year 2025 to you!
