1 Chronicles 4:38
The men listed above by name were leaders of their clans. Their families increased greatly,
1 Chronicles 4:39
and they went to the outskirts of Gedor to the east of the valley in search of pasture for their flocks.
1 Chronicles 4:40
They found rich, good pasture, and the land was spacious, peaceful and quiet. Some Hamites had lived there formerly.
The genealogy in the book of the first Chronicles chapter four ends with a story about certain men who are referred to as leaders. They were leaders of their clans. They stood out as leaders and we wonder why and soon we will understand why.
We are first told that their families increased greatly. During the time of their leadership, the families increased. During their tenure, and therefore as a result of their leadership, there was an increase at the family level. The population grew and developed under their care. The health of the people was good to support growth, during their time. These men were leaders, weren’t they?
How is it during your time and my time? Is there any growth visible to others apart from ourselves? We and those who cheer us will assure ourselves that our time is the best time, but is it? Are people happier during your time? Are systems working efficiently without your regular interventions? These and many more are what make leaders? Leaders whose times are times of increase at the lowest level and not just increase for the few at the top. These men were leaders, weren’t they?
When these men faced a shortage of pasture, they sought a solution outside their territory. These leaders were thinking outside their current region, outside the box. They went to unexplored lands to find a solution. They did not limit themselves to the area they knew well. They did not limit themselves to traditional ways of finding pasture. They went where no one had gone in order to find solutions no one had ever discovered. These men were leaders, weren’t they?
When seeking solutions, do you go back to the same traditional solutions that give the same old tired answers to modern problems? Are you a daring leader who will take risks in order to find answers heretofore unknown? Do you think and operate outside the box or are you stranded in the box of what you found?
The story ends by telling us that they found the best pasture ever. It was rich, spacious, and peaceful to dwell in for the people they led. Anyone who seeks and explores will find what they are looking for. If you keep looking without giving up, you will find. If you go where no one has gone, you will find what no one has found. These leaders sought and they found. May we find the money. May we find the love. May we find the health. May we find peace. May we find prosperity. May we find the job and opportunities. May God, give us courage and wisdom to search, and like all excellent leaders, may we find what we seek, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
