Micah 2:1
Woe to those who plan iniquity,
to those who plot evil on their beds!
At morning’s light they carry it out
because it is in their power to do it.
New Living Translation
What sorrow awaits you who lie awake at night, thinking up evil plans. You rise at dawn and hurry to carry them out, simply because you have the power to do so.
Did you know that you don’t have to do everything that you are able to do? You can use an anonymous identity and negatively attack and harm someone but you don’t have to do it. You can but don’t do it!
You can commit a crime and successfully cover it. You can frustrate your juniors. You can cause someone to be fired. You can actually ruin someone’s life you have the power. You can but don’t do it!
You can force people to respect you and tremble in your presence. You can instill fear in people around you. You can use one person as an example to others. You can make the environment toxic to everyone except you and your ilk. You can but don’t do it!
You can walk away and cause him or her suffering and serious ripple effect. You can embarrass. You can restart a new life and let others suffer immensely. You can abandon your relationships without notifying your partners. You don’t care and it doesn’t harm you. You can but don’t do it!
The Bible tells us today that there are people who would at night craft evil plans that harm others. They would craft this plan at night and wake up to implement it. They did this because they had the power to do it. They did it not because there was a need or reason but because they had the power to do it. God took note that they acted in this manner because they had the power to do it. They were exercising their powers. They were doing it because they could. You can but don’t do it!
Micah 2:3
Therefore, the LORD says:
“I am planning disaster against this people,
from which you cannot save yourselves.
You will no longer walk proudly,
for it will be a time of calamity.
God is not happy with these abuse of power incidences. God has realized that we are abusing our abilities. God has noticed that we don’t care because we have the money. God has noticed that we are proud because we have numbers in our favor. God has noticed that we have everything working in our favor. God has noticed we are power-drunk and we just do wrong because we can. Now God says, He is planning to stop this abuse of power. God says He will stop it. To be safe, even if you can, don’t do it!
Even if you can hurt someone, don’t do it. Even if you can harm someone, don’t do it. Even if you can teach the person a lesson, don’t do it! You can but don’t do it!
David was anointed, king. David had several opportunities to kill King Saul. David did not do it. Even if you can, don’t do it. David could have punished Saul’s family for the suffering he went through, but he favored the remnant of Saul’s family. He could have avenged himself. He could but he didn’t. You can but don’t do it!
They are so many things you can do but you don’t have to do them. May God give us the wisdom to know what to do and what not to do, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
