1 John 3:15
Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.
Amplified Bible
Everyone who hates (works against) his brother [in Christ] is [at heart] a murderer [by God’s standards]; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
New Living Translation
Anyone who hates another brother or sister is really a murderer at heart. And you know that murderers don’t have eternal life within them.
Hatred is a feeling of disliking someone so much. You dislike them with or without a reason. The dislike is intense and you wish that negative things would happen to that person. Is there someone whose bad news would be your good news? Is there someone whose failure would give you pleasure? Is there someone whose misfortune will seem to you a punishment from God and you are glad for that divine Justice? You are a hater.
Hatred is when feelings of dislike go to the extent that you want to teach them a lesson. While there are diplomatic ways and means of teaching a lesson, your dislike prefers crude ways that inflict pain. Hatred is when you will only be satisfied when the object of your dislike acknowledges your power to their own disgrace. When you get excited and feel good that those you hate have learned a hard lesson and acknowledged it. You are a hater.
Hatred is a feeling of dislike that is so intense and can’t allow you to work with the person you hate. It comes out as a well-thought-out decision but at its core is hatred. If in a community of believers there are people you can’t work with being careful, you are a hater.
Hatred is a feeling of dislike that causes you to do everything within your power to ensure nothing good or successful happens to the one you hate. You talk to everyone to discourage them from doing good to the person you hate. You come out as concerned and objective but at the core are intense feelings of dislike. You are a hater!
We hate people for various reasons. We hate people if they tell us the bitter truth. We hate people who stand in the way of our illicit progress. We hate people for being different from us, different colors, different nationalities, different tribes, different languages, etc. We hate people who seem better than us in one way or the other. We hate people who have what we want but we don’t have. We hate people who do not seem to acknowledge our power and superiority. The reasons for hate are innumerable.
When you study the Bible, you discover that reasons for hatred don’t matter. Hatred is hatred. Hatred must be addressed as a problem without excusing it through giving reasons. Hatred for whatever legitimate reason is wrong!
Our text today tells us that hatred synonymous with murder. The Bible says if you hate anyone you are a murderer. Not that you are the same as a murderer but that actually you are a murderer. The other name for hatred is murder.
Matthew 5:21-22
(21) “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ (22) But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister, will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.
Hatred is murder that has missed the opportunity. A hater is a murderer who is waiting for the right moment. In the eyes of God hatred is as good as murder. God counts hares and murderers in the same category. The other name for haters is murderers.
Our text today ends by telling us that haters also known as murderers have no eternal life. Whatever religious logical sensible reasons you have for hatred, you are hell-bound. Haters and murderers will be punished in this life and be denied eternal life in the future, a double loss.
Psalms 23:5
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
God hates haters. God punishes haters by making those they hate shine. Scriptural records show that God acts ruthlessly against haters. Egyptians hated Israelites and God punished them painfully. Haman hated Mordechai and God caused him to forcefully celebrate Mordecai and die in his place. Those who hated Daniel and had him thrown in the lion’s den died the death they had planned for Daniel. If you are a hater, God will ensure you painfully see those you hate to excel and then you get destroyed.
We should only hate the sin not even sinners. Examine yourself if you hate anyone and repent. When we are hated we should not hate back. Treat well those who hate you. Do not hate those who hate you.
Romans 12:17
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.
Romans 12:18
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Romans 12:19
Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
Romans 12:20
On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
Romans 12:21
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
May God save us from haters and hatred. May God enable us to love our haters as He has commanded, in Jesus’ name, Amen!

God help us!
It is by God’s grace that I am not counted as a murderer. May He forgive me and give me the strength to love even those who I see as being unlovable.
Hallelujah!
