Job 2:3
Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.”
Satan appears before God a second time in the book of Job. The first time satan appeared he requested God to allow him to destroy the wealth of Job. God allowed him. Satan went ahead and destroyed everything that Job had and even killed Job’s children. Job remained faithful even though it wasn’t easy!
God asks Satan if he has seen Job. Satan claims that Job would turn against God if he was personally affected and his life threatened. God once again permits satan to go for Job’s health. First, it was wealth and now it is health that is targeted. Job remained faithful even though it wasn’t easy!
Job was struck with sores all over his body. He suffered immensely. He was such a pitiable sight, that his wife recommended that he commits suicide by cursing God and die Job 2:9-10. Job remained faithful though he was in very serious physical and personal pain.
When Job’s friends came to visit him, they were so shocked that they wailed loudly and then went into silence for seven days, just being at the side of Job, and comforting him, Job 2:12-13. Job must have drastically changed that the friends couldn’t believe he was the one. Job was in pain and wasting away. Job remained faithful even though it was clear this sickness could cause death.
Even in the second trial of health after wealth was destroyed, Job remained faithful to God. Job never turned away from God. Even though Job lost wealth and health, he remained faithful to God. At last, God rewarded him with a double of everything he lost and more days, Job 42:12-17. Job remained faithful even though it seemed that all was now lost!
In our text today, God tells Satan that Job is good but it’s satan who Incited God to allow such calamities to befall job. God tells Satan that even though he has tried to harm Job, Job has remained faithful. What a great commendation from God. That even though you caused him great harm he remained faithful.
God needs us to remain faithful even though we face a possibility of failure. Be faithful to God even though you lack money. Be faithful to God even though you feel abandoned. Be faithful to God in your loneliness even though you have been praying about it. Be faithful to God even though you are mourning.
Job was faithful even though it wasn’t easy. God blessed him at last and he lived a better life. In the name of Jesus, let us be faithful, even though….
