Luke 5:31-32
(31) Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. (32) I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
If you are focused on what you are doing, you have a higher chance of succeeding. Focused means you have a goal and you do not lose sight of it. Focused means, you do not get distracted. Focused means there is nothing greater than your goal. Focused means you are obsessed with your goal. Everything you do is related to your goal.
Jesus went to visit Levi who had just accepted to be His disciple. Levi organized a big party that was attended by tax collectors and many others considered to be sinners. Religious leaders complained that Jesus was interacting with sinners. The words of our Scripture reading today are Jesus’ reply.
Jesus responds that it is the sick who need a doctor. Jesus is the doctor. The sinners He was interacting with are the sick. That means Jesus was at the right place doing the right thing with the right people. Jesus came to solve a problem called sin. If you are a saint and not a sinner, it means Jesus did not come for you since you have no problem.
The religious leaders felt they were much more righteous than the sinners Jesus was interacting with. Jesus tells them He did not come for the righteous. He did not come for those who feel they are better than others. Jesus declares His goal to be the sinners who need repentance or the sick who need a doctor.
It is clear that Jesus was focused on what He was supposed to achieve. Jesus refuses to be distracted by the desire to please the religious leaders. Jesus responds by referring to the goal of His coming on the earth.
We learn from Jesus that everything He did was related to His goal. He did not go to Levi’s house party to pass time, it was related to His goal. He did not visit Levi to enjoy the food, it was about His goal. He did not go to Levi’s house to hang out with people, He was fulfilling His goal. Jesus did not go to Levi’s house because He had FOMO (fear of missing out), He was on a mission to fulfill His goal. Everything Jesus did was related to His goal!
He went to Levi’s house to seek and save the lost. It was not about the food or the colorfulness of the event, but the lost who were present. His goal was greater than the event. Everything Jesus did had to be related to His goal.
What are your goals in life? What are your financial goals? What are your social goals? What are your spiritual goals? What are your academic goals? What are your health goals?
Are your daily activities related to that goal? Is your spending related to that goal? Are your daily activities related to your goals? Is your choice of friends related to those goals? (Some friends can be the reason why you will never realize your goals.) Is everything you do related to your goals?
Do you have written goals? Do you refer to your goals before making a decision? Do you plan your day’s events in relation to your goals? Is everything you do related to your goals?
May God grant us a Jesus-like focus so that everything we do has to be related to our goals in life, in Jesus’ name, Amen!

Thank you for sharing this thought-provoking message about the importance of focus and aligning our actions with our goals. It is so true that everything Jesus did was related to His goal of seeking and saving the lost, and it is a powerful reminder for us to strive for that same level of focus in our own lives. It is essential to have clear goals and to be mindful of how our daily activities and choices contribute to or distract from those goals. May we all seek to have a Jesus-like focus, and may God guide us as we work towards achieving our goals in life. Amen.
