1 Kings 9:4-7 (NIV) – 4 “As for you, if you walk before me faithfully with integrity of heart and uprightness, as David your father did, and do all I command and observe my decrees and laws, 5 I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’ 6 “But if you or your descendants turn away from me and do not observe the commands and decrees I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, 7 then I will cut off Israel from the land I have given them and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. Israel will then become a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples.
After King Solomon had finished building the temple, he prayed for God’s favor and blessings. God responded by appearing to Solomon and speaking to him. The words cited in the verse above are the words of God.
God tells Solomon that if we relate well, you will experience prosperity and peace. If we do not relate well, you will experience destruction and chaotic undesirable life. It will all depend on how God and Solomon relate. Good relationship good life, bad relationship bad life!
A good relationship between Solomon and God is when Solomon does the revealed will of God. When Solomon doesn’t break his relationship with God by going to pay allegiance to others gods. That will be a good relationship.
A good relationship also has to do with serving God with integrity of heart. Serving God with uprightness. That means God wants a genuine relationship based on a love for Him. God hates fake relationships also known as hypocrisy. God tells Solomon to have a genuine loving relationship with Him. Good relationship good life, bad relationship bad life!
Every relationship has parameters of what is right and wrong. God tells Solomon and the Israelites to be careful about parameters of the relationship. They should focus on having a good relationship with God and God will grant them a good life. Good relationship good life, bad relationship bad life!
God tells Solomon and Israelites that if you ignore my decrees and commands and consequently go to serve other gods, I will abandon you. When we abandon God and the perimeter He has set for us, He also abandons us. When we abandon God it’s a sign of a bad relationship. When God abandons us it’s a bad relationship. What follows is a painful life of loss after loss. Good relationship good life, bad relationship bad life!
The quality of our lives daily and ultimately in the future is directly proportional to the quality of our relationship with God. How is your relationship with God? How do you relate to the will He has revealed in the Bible? Are you interested to know His will and do it or you want the relationship to be as superficial as possible? He likes genuine deep relationships. How is your relationship with God? Good relationship good life, bad relationship bad life!
Is God your friend? Do you talk to Him daily through prayer? Do you attend His meetings called church worship? Do you seek to know His opinion by studying the Bible to understand? Are you interested a genuinely good relationship with God? Good relationship good life, bad relationship bad life!
What do you need to improve in your relationship with God? What stands on your way? Who is preventing you? What and who should be addressed so that you have a good relationship with God. How you relate with God has a direct impact on your life. Good relationship good life, bad relationship bad life!
Your relationship with God affects your school work, job, business, health, money, relationships, and your spiritual life. How you relate with God determines how peaceful and happy you will be. Good relationship good life, bad relationship bad life!
If you are in a good relationship with God and things aren’t good, you will be calm, because you know that God will come through soon and save you. You will go through life as calmly as Jesus facing death on the cross, or Shadrack and friends facing fire or Daniel facing lions. Having a good relationship with God changes your demeanor and attitude in times of crisis. Good relationship good life, bad relationship bad life!
May God grant us a good relationship with Him. May God help us to have a genuinely good relationship with Him. May our lives evolve and blossom in a good relationship with God. In Jesus name, Amen!
