Judges 3:15
Again the Israelites cried out to the LORD, and he gave them a deliverer —Ehud, a left-handed man, the son of Gera the Benjamite. The Israelites sent him with tribute to Eglon king of Moab.
When Israelites settled in the Promised Land, they started forgetting God and the instructions of success that He gave them. Israelites lived in rebellion until God had to allow misfortune to knock them back to their senses. I hope we will not sink so low as to require a misfortune to point us back to the right path.
Israelites had enemies and God allowed their enemies to defeat them. That defeat helped Israelites to know that the idols and gods of Canaan cannot save. The Israelites quickly learned their lesson and they cried to God for forgiveness and help.
Whenever they cried to God, help came and the enemies who were oppressing them would get defeated. God would appoint an Israelite full of the Spirit and obedient to God. That Israelite would lead Israel in the liberation struggle. God would bless that Israelite with victory. That leading Israelite was known as a judge.
Many such judges served Israel. Samuel was a judge. Samson was a judge. Othniel was a judge. Deborah was a judge. Jephtha was a judge, among many others.
Every time a judge would lead Israelites to freedom, they would go back to sin and once again forget God. God would bear with them until it became necessary to punish them again. During the punishment, they would cry again, yes, cry again for God’s help. It is okay to cry again!
Our text today tells us that Israelites cried again to God. It is not good to keep repeating the same sin and crying again. However, we also learn that God is more gracious than us. The Bible records that whenever they cried again, God listened and sent a judge to deliver them. God listened because God is patient and merciful. Whatever happens to you and you must cry for the umpteenth time, don’t mind, just do it. It is okay to cry again!
When you cry again, He will save you again, He is more gracious than many churches and church leaders who wouldn’t give you another chance. He is more gracious than many people who masquerade as belonging to Him but lack His mercies and grace. He is much more gracious than many governments, leaders, relatives, and friends. If you, unfortunately, fall again, please, cry again. It is okay to cry again!
You made a poor financial decision and you cried then God saved you. Now you have made another poor decision of failing to return tithes and offerings and now you are sinking financially. You made a blunder of working on Sabbath, now God has decided to sink you. It is okay to cry again, He will hear you and save you. It is okay to cry again!
This is not the first time you are suffering in relationships. You have messed up before. Sexual engagement killed the progress of the relationships in the past. Now you have engaged again and the relationship has lost interest and it is going nowhere as you grow old. It is okay to cry again!
Your laziness or bad attitude or too much talking has put you in trouble before. You suffered and cried to God for help. Now you are in trouble again. It is okay to cry again!
2 Chronicles 36:15-16
(15)The LORD, the God of their ancestors, sent word to them through his messengers again and again, because he had pity on his people and on his dwelling place. (16)But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the LORD was aroused against his people and there was no remedy.
Revelation 22:11
Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.”
While it is true that we can cry to God again and again, someday that opportunity runs out and we have no further chance to cry again. We must learn from the Bible warning, that someday, there will be no chance to cry again. It is prudent to learn from the first or second cry, without making it a habit to fall in sin then cry again. Meanwhile, we still have an opportunity to cry, if you must cry again, please do. It is okay to cry again!
Hear me again O LORD, it is me crying again. Save me from the habit of repeating mistakes and abusing the opportunity to cry again. I am here crying again, listen to me LORD, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
