2 Timothy 1:7
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
New Living Translation
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
Amplified Bible
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].
Contemporary English Version
God’s Spirit doesn’t make cowards out of us. The Spirit gives us power, love, and self-control.
The Holy Spirit is God. He knows everything. He is everywhere. He has all power. Therefore when we talk of the coming of the Holy Spirit, we are talking of when we allow Him to work through us. God has given us the liberty to accept Him or reject Him. When we accept the call of God, the Holy Spirit starts working in us and through us. That is what we refer to as the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes with success ingredients!
There is a narrow view of the function of the Holy Spirit. The narrow view suggests that the Holy Spirit only comes to address spiritual issues and then we are left to deal with other issues. The narrow view suggests that the Holy Spirit cannot address academic issues, relationship issues, marital issues, health issues, and even financial issues. I suggest that such a limited Holy Spirit is not the Holy Spirit of the Bible. When the Holy Spirit comes into any life, everything is affected totally. The Holy Spirit comes with success ingredients!
Jesus promised that if He leaves the Holy Spirit will come to empower us. The Holy Spirit came. The Holy Spirit now grants us gifts of the Spirit. Gifts of the Holy Spirit help us to serve the church. The gifts are varied from person to person. The gifts may be one or more. The Holy Spirit also enables us to bear fruit, the fruit of the Holy Spirit. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is the same for any and every believer.
Our text today tells us that the Holy spirit also dispels fear from our lives. Fear can kill good ambition. Fear can disable us from making a good judgment in the fragile waters of investment. Successful people make risky decisions but they have suppressed fear. Failures are always afraid to failing. If you can overcome the fear of failure, you will try many things until you succeed. The Holy Spirit enables us to overcome any and every fear. Whoever controls fear is bound for success. The Holy Spirit comes with success ingredients!
Our text also tells us that the Holy Spirit gives us power. We need power against the devil. We need power against demonic activities that seek to destroy us. We need power against greed. We need the power to serve God. We need the power to run our families and businesses. We need power against human and nonhuman enemies. The Bible tells us that we have access to immense endless power through the Holy Spirit. If you have power nothing can stop you from succeeding. The Holy Spirit comes with success ingredients!
Our text tells us that the Holy Spirit also gives us love. Love of God. Love for others. love from others. Love makes an individual stable mentally. A person who is stable mentally can think properly and make decisions that will bring success. Many people are distracted because of a lack of love, love shortage, and love problems. If your love life is covered, nothing stops you from total success. the Holy Spirit ensures our love issues are covered. The Holy Spirit comes with successful ingredients!
Finally, we are told that self-discipline comes from the Holy Spirit. Self-discipline is the chief ingredient of any achievement. To remain focused amid distractions requires self-disciplines. If you work hard without self-discipline, you will succeed briefly before your own actions, thoughts, and words destroy you. Self-discipline is required to manage resources including time. Self-discipline is required for sustainable achievement. Self-discipline is a critical ingredient to success. The Holy Spirit comes with success ingredients!
We need the Holy Spirit so that we can get gifts of the spirit in order to serve the church. We need the Holy Spirit so that we bear fruit of the Holy Spirit which makes us Christlike. We need the Holy Spirit to give us the ingredients of success in everything. Dear God, grant us the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
