The Living Feared, The Dead Ignored

Exodus 9:20-21 (NIV) – 20 Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the LORD hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside. 21 But those who ignored the word of the LORD left their slaves and livestock in the field.

God tells Moses to warn Pharaoh and everyone else that He will bring a hailstorm that will kill everything and everyone that is out in the field. God gives people time to get out of the open fields and seek shelter. God gives people time to move their animals, workers and other valuables from the open fields to secure shelter.

Our text today tells us that those who feared the word of God, immediately moved their animals and workers into safety from the open fields. The Bible text of consideration today tells us that those who ignored the word of God left their animals and workers in the open fields. Two groups of people emerged after God’s word was declared. Those who feared and those who ignored.

After the set time two groups emerged ready to face the word of God. Those who feared and those who ignored. After the set time hailstorm and thunder rained violently upon Egypt. Everything, every animal and everyone in the open fields was destroyed and killed instantly. Only those in the shelters survived. Those who feared the word of God and went to shelters- lived. Those who ignored the word of God and remained in the open fields- died.

At the end of the deadly storm, those who remained alive, are those who feared the word of God. The living, feared! At the end of the fatal storm, those who died are those who ignored the word of God. The dead, ignored!

After worship, any worship, those who fear God’s word will be blessed. Those who ignore God’s word will miss blessings and will face possible death. It is either you fear the word of God, or you ignore. Where do you belong?

When the end of the world comes, the word of God that has been preached, taught, etc., will come true. Those who feared the word of God will receive eternal life. Those who ignored the word of God will face eternal death. Do you fear or do you ignore?

To fear is to have reverence and respect for God’s word, who leads you to obey, even when it doesn’t make complete sense. To ignore may be deliberate or on the pretext that you are reasoning or rationalizing or taking time to reflect, consequently you don’t obey. Those who feared, lived. Those who ignored, died!

Success in school or at work depends on whether you fear or ignore God’s word on how to work diligently. Your health depends on whether you fear or ignore the word of God on how to take care of your health. Your eternal life or death depends on whether you fear or ignore God’s word on spiritual decisions you must make. Those who feared will live and be okay. Those who ignore will regret and die.

Financial breakthroughs and stability will depend on whether you fear or ignore God’s word on how to handle finances. Your social life will thrive and bring you happiness or will constantly stress you, depending on whether you fear or ignore God’s word on how to relate with people. Those who feared will be satisfied and happy. Those who ignore will be desperate in life and death.

May I be found among those who fear God’s word in everything and consequently obey it. May God forgive me for times when I have ignored God’s word by thinking that I am being intelligent, logical, reasonable, etc. May the blessings of fearing God’s word be ours today and in future, In Jesus name, Amen!
