2 Corinthians 8:22-23 (NIV) – 22 In addition, we are sending with them our brother who has often proved to us in many ways that he is zealous, and now even more so because of his great confidence in you. 23 As for Titus, he is my partner and co-worker among you; as for our brothers, they are representatives of the churches and an honor to Christ.
2 Corinthians 8:22-23 (Message Bible) – That’s why we’re sending another trusted friend along. He’s proved his dependability many times over, and carries on as energetically as the day he started. He’s heard much about you, and liked what he’s heard—so much so that he can’t wait to get there. 8:23 I don’t need to say anything further about Titus. We’ve been close associates in this work of serving you for a long time. The brothers who travel with him are delegates from churches, a real credit to Christ.
While collecting donations from churches to help starving Christians in Jerusalem, Apostle Paul came up with a team. It is important to work with a team. You as a leader can’t know everything, you need other people to counsel with. You as a leader can’t do everything, you need extra hands to help you. Learn to work with a team.
Apostle Paul also had a team to assure members who were making donations that their donations were safe and properly used. He chose a team that elicited confidence. You can have a team that nobody trusts. You and your team can be a bunch of thugs that everyone doubts. If your team is a cartel that serves your selfish interests, then it’s no team that will bring success.
While forming a team of leaders to work with, ensure that you do not come out as a cartel. You can fool some people sometimes but you can’t fool all the people all the time. Apostle Paul chose a team that couldn’t be a cartel.

Sending another trusted friend. The name is not mentioned. This is a new team member. This is mentorship and grooming new people. The team should have a mixture of such people. We should avoid having same characters all the time, it becomes suspicious.
Apostle Paul’s team had friendly people. A team can’t function if they are busy opposing each other. The team also had people who had proved their dependability. Experienced, tried, and tested. It wasn’t trial and error. The team was made of enthusiastic members who didn’t lose enthusiasm. The team was made of people who loved the project of helping the needy. You can’t have a team of people disinterested in building to form a building team. Are your team members interested in what they are doing?

Titus another team member was also a man of experience. He brought in the team past experience. He was also a trusted associate of the Apostles and he was known by the churches he served. Team members serving people must be known by the people they served. Their names elicit confidence.
The brothers who are delegates from the churches. Chosen by the churches and not leaders. Representing the churches not the leaders. A team must represent all interests. Titus represents interests of the leaders. The brothers represent interests of the church. This is a team that all people are proud of.
If you have a team, let all interests be represented. Let others choose their representatives. Let them work together with other representatives. Do not choose representatives on behalf of others, that will make them your representative and not theirs.
This team ensures that the leaders and the churches deliver on the mission at hand. Donations collected. Donations distributed to the needy. More donations collected because nobody doubts or is suspicious of foul play. This was a winning team.
May God help us to be good team members. Friendly and eliciting trust. May God help us to form teams that are trustworthy and truly representative of all interests. May our teams be winning teams. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
