Mark 5:35-36
(35) While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”
(36) Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
There is nothing as terribly hurting as being too late to do anything. When nothing you do can change a situation. When lateness carries a permanent reminder of damages that can’t be undone. What do you do when it’s too late to change the situation?
Jairus was a Synagogue leader. Jairus had a critically ill daughter. Jairus came to Jesus seeking a healing miracle for his daughter. Jairus pleaded with Jesus to go with him to his house. Jesus accepted and started off with Jairus. On the way to Jairus’s home, Jesus was interrupted by a woman who had an issue of blood for twelve years.
Jesus spent some time addressing the great faith of the woman who touched His garment in search of healing. This woman with a twelve-year issue of blood was healed instantly when by faith she believed that touching the hem of Jesus’ garment will heal her. She gave her testimony in public as Jesus listened and as Jairus got anxious about this delay.
While Jesus was still speaking to this healed woman, messengers arrived from Jairus’ home. They were bearing bad news. They told Jairus that his daughter had died and it was too late to change the situation. They told Jairus not to bother Jesus because it was too late to change the situation. What do you do when it is too late to change the situation?
Jesus overheard the bad news that was delivered to Jairus. Jesus hears everything we are told. Jesus knows those who discourage us and what they said. Jesus has a message for all of us who are dealing with being too late to change the situation. What Jesus said to Jairus is what He still says to us who are too late to change the situation.
Jesus told Jarius that he should not be afraid and he should just keep believing that the daughter will be well. When it’s too late to change the situation, keep trusting, and keep believing. When it’s too late to change the situation do not change your faith in God!
Which situation are you facing that you think is too late to change? Has your relationship reached where it’s too late to change anything for its good? Are you so deep in debt or are your finances so low that you have resolved to give up since it’s too late to change anything? Has your health deteriorated so much that you think you are ready for the exit since you can’t change the situation? Have your school grades been so low that you believe there will never be an improvement and your dreams can’t come true? When it’s too late to change the situation, keep trusting, and keep believing. When it’s too late to change the situation do not change your faith in God!
Dear God, save us from situations that are too late to change for the better. Give us faith to keep on trusting you even when all seems lost. As Jairus’ daughter eventually woke up from the dead, may we too have our situations wake up from their hopeless status, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
