Revelation 6:1 – I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!”
I am a layman in solving Mathematical, Physics and Chemistry equations. But I have learnt that these equations may have constants and variables. Variables are represented by any letter and the value is unknown. Constants are represented by a known number. Constants can be represented by an uppercase K (equilibrium constant) or lowercase k (rate constant). The basic concept is that constants don’t change and variables change.
An individual is the constant but their emotions or moods are variable. The space in church is constant but the number of people who come for worship keeps varying depending on how attractive the program of the day is. You have a traveling bag that carries your stuff for every trip. Some trips are short and you need less stuff to carry. Some trips are long and you need more stuff to carry. What you carry varies in size but the space available in your bag is constant.
Therefore there are constants that remain the same and variables that keep changing. The Bible today tells us about seven seals in Revelation chapter six. The seals represent the seasons the church would pass through from the time of the Early church to the time when Jesus comes back to end this world and start a new one.
The seasons completely vary. The seasons begin with a white horse representing a peaceful successful season of the early church when the church enjoyed successful evangelism and growth. Then a red horse followed indicating a bloody season when the church was persecuted and blood was heavily shed.
After the red horse came a black horse. This represented a dark season the church went through. A season when there were many attempts to compromise the faith. Bible doctrines were compromised to accommodate the then popular culture. A dark season indeed, since the church seemed to lose its shine.
After the black horse came the pale horse representing a season of persecution of the church. A stifled church that couldn’t preach openly. Faithful believers were killed.
These seasons are the same as the seasons represented by the seven churches of Revelation chapter two and three. Same church different seasons. The church is the constant but the seasons are variables. The church and what God expects of it is a constant, while the times it goes through are variable.
No matter what variables come, the church should remain constant. The church and what God expects of it is a constant that doesn’t change. Generations with their varied characteristics will come and go but the church ought to remain the same in what it stands for.
God’s people, you and me are supposed to be constants. We should remain faithful under all circumstances. No circumstances should cause us to abandon or review our faith. You are the constant in the equation of life.
Job was wealthy. Job was healthy. Job had a thriving family. Job lost wealth. Job lost health. Job lost family. Job’s faith did not change, it was the constant that remained the same. You are the constant in this equation.
Philippians 4:12 – I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
Apostle Paul had seasons of plenty and seasons of lack, but his faith remained constant. Our seasons change too, but do we remain constant in these equations of life? You and me should be the constants in the equation of life!
The believer should be the constant. Always loving. Always hardworking. Always faithful. Always forgiving. Always consistent!
Are you constant at your workplace? Are you constant in your neighborhood? Are you constant in school? Are you constant in you family and marriage? Are you constant in public and private? Are you constant in what you share online or do you get carried away by politics, the secular and the trending? Be constant. Have a constant image. You are the constant in the equation of life, are you constant?
Revelation 3:15 – I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!
Revelation 3:16 – So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
God expects us as individuals and the whole church to be constant. If we are not constant we are failing in our God given assignment. We remain faithful under all circumstances. Only the constant will be saved.
Dear God make me constant as You have purposed. Keep me constant in all situations and circumstances. May the changing seasons find me faithful. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
