You Came Out, Come Out Again!

Habakkuk 3:13
You came out to deliver your people,
to save your anointed one.
You crushed the leader of the land of wickedness,
you stripped him from head to foot.

Prophet Habakkuk has narrated the problem of Israel. As he ends his prophecies, he ends in hope. He focuses on God’s deliverance. He shifts his attention from problem to solution. He refocuses on God and not the complaints and problems he earlier had.

Habakkuk paints a picture of Israel out there at war against an enemy. While Israel is out there fighting with the enemy, the God of Israel is in a closed city or a closed house, so to speak. Sin has separated God and His people. Without God, Israel is suffering serious losses at war. Sin is the reason they are suffering and losing. The absence of God is the reason why they are suffering and losing.

But God is gracious. God is different. While Israel deserves every loss and pain, God sympathizes with them. Habakkuk pictures God leaving His closed city. Habakkuk pictures God leaving His great house. God comes out to save Israel.

God gets into the ring where Israel is being punched silly. God comes out to save Israel from the ferocious enemy. God came to save Israel from the fight that would have cost their lives. God comes out to deliver His people. God came out when those He came out for didn’t deserve it. You came out, come out again!

Habakkuk speaks to God as Israel listens. He tells God how glad they are because He came out. They are glad He came out and delivered His people. They are glad that when He came out He went for the lead enemy and crushed him and stripped him from head to foot. That was a total defeat and consequently granted Israel victory. God came out and Israel’s enemy was totally defeated. You came out, come out again!

We too are out here fighting various battles and many times without God because of our sins. We have survived several times because God keeps coming out to ensure we are not totally finished. He came out as I struggled in school. He came out when I was lonely. He came out when I was indisposed. He came out during a road accident. He came out when I was stressed and depressed. He came out that is why I am still alive. You came out, come out again!

He came out when relatives turned against you. He came out when you were rejected by your life partner. He came out when suicidal thoughts crept on you. He came out when your marriage was on a rough patch. He came out when you were falsely accused and suffered damage. He came out when death rocked the family. He came out that is why you are still alive. You came out, come out again!

May God come out again. May God come out for me even today. You came out, come out again, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
