Daniel 4:26
The command to leave the stump of the tree with its roots means that your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge that Heaven rules.
Daniel chapter four was written by King Nebuchadnezzar. It is a testimony of what happened to him. While prosperous and contented with life, Daniel 4:4, his life was interrupted by a dream that clearly had some significance. He dreamt that there was a huge tree that was cut down at the command of a heavenly messenger. The heavenly messenger also ordered that the stump of the tree be preserved. Daniel interpreted the dream to the king by telling him that he is the tree that will be cut down.
Daniel tells the King that he will be removed from kingship for seven years until he acknowledges that God is the King of Kings and would do what He wants including giving the kingdom to whomever He wishes. These words are repeated with a punch you can’t ignore while reading, “until you acknowledge….”
God wanted Nebuchadnezzar to acknowledge that God is in control of the universe. This was difficult for Nebuchadnezzar who had just won military conquests against all nations and was now the reigning monarch of his day. How could God tell such a successful soldier that his victory was God-given and not military efforts? How could God of Israel, Israel that Nebuchadnezzar defeated, claim to be the one who gave Nebuchadnezzar permission to conquer Israel? Wouldn’t that be watering down his victory? Therefore acknowledging God’s role was difficult to this proud man and hardworking man who got everything by his sweat, or so he thought.
God through this dream warns Nebuchadnezzar that unless he repents his sin, Daniel 4:27, he will have to go through an experience where God takes power from him by making him insane and then after seven years, restore power to him, something that would never happen under circumstances of those days. In our text today, Daniel tells the King that the stump of the tree is preserved to indicate that his kingdom will be restored to him when he acknowledges the supremacy of God. Your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge the supremacy of God over your life!
Nebuchadnezzar did not acknowledge and he was turned into a wild animal and he ate grass and grew feathers for seven years, Daniel 4:33. Nebuchadnezzar lived in the wild for seven years, until when he acknowledged that God is supreme and is the giver of all that we have even by hardworking and strategy. The promise came true because when he acknowledged God, his sanity was restored and his kingdom too. Your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge the supremacy of God over your life!
Whatever we have whether as gifts, by hardworking, by merit, by sweat, or whichever way are God-given. You are what you are because of God. You are not stable and firm where you are because of strategy and wisdom, no, God has preserved you there. If you forget to acknowledge God’s role in your present state, He may have to demonstrate it as He did for Nebuchadnezzar. Your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge the supremacy of God over your life!
It is possible we have lost something and God is waiting for us to acknowledge Him as the provider and sustainer. Our social life is a sham until we acknowledge that all social life is from God. Our finances are in a sorry state until we acknowledge that financial wisdom is from God. Our health will keep swaying and dwindling until we acknowledge that God and not healthful practices are responsible for your weight adjustment and good looks. Your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge the supremacy of God over your life!
God can and will restore employments and businesses. God can and will restore single people back to relationships and married people to their first love. God can and will restore anything and everything. Your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge the supremacy of God over your life!
I acknowledge today dear God that I am all I am because You are my God. Without you, I would long have been destroyed. Without you, my best efforts would have failed to achieve anything. Even what others think are my resilience and hardworking and merit, it comes from You, without You it would never happen. Dear God, restore what has been lost, You are supreme over my life, restore it, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
Amen.
