Exodus 4:19
Now the LORD had said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill you are dead. ”
It had taken forty years but eventually, Moses was the last man standing in a duel with those who sought his life. It may take many years but all those who seek to destroy us will eventually perish and God will announce these words to us. All those who wanted to kill you are dead!
God may not do it instantly as we wish. We may wait until we forget that someone had hurt us. But God does not forget. Quietly and one by one He will knock them out. We may not notice it, but someday when He is done, He will make the announcement to us. All those who wanted to kill you are dead!
We may not know all of those who wanted to kill us. We may not know that some who behave friendly are the ones gathering information to betray us. We may not know that the very friendly nice guys are plotting our total destruction. God knows all of them and their roles in the plan to kill us. God will knock them out one by one. When God has exhausted the list He has, He will make an announcement. All those who wanted to kill you are dead!
After Moses ran away from Egypt, from those who wanted to kill him, he forgot about them. But God did not forget. Even if you forget the pain, God will never forget. Even if you move on and no longer feel the hurt, God has not forgotten. God doesn’t act because you remember. God continues acting even after you have forgotten. Therefore, move on and forget the pain you went through. God will never forget and someday, He will surprise you with this announcement. All those who wanted to kill you are dead!
Matthew 2:19-20
(19) After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt (20) and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.”
We don’t have to keep track of when those who seek to kill us will die. We just need to move on and go on with the new life they pushed us into. Parents of Jesus moved with Him to Egypt and settled there. They did not seek to find out if Herod is dead. They moved on and were enjoying life in Egypt. Then the angel of the Lord appeared and announced that those who were trying to kill Jesus are dead. Do not keep track of your enemies and what is going on in their lives. Just move on into the new life you were pushed into, God will do the rest. Someday the surprise announcement will come. All those who wanted to kill you are dead!
While people have hurt us and we can gladly say Amen as we wait to be told that God has sorted them, yet, we too hurt people and we may be on the list of those God will finish in order for others to have justice. Therefore, I must examine myself with brutal honesty and seek forgiveness for people I have hurt, perhaps God will spare me from destruction. May God help us to examine ourselves. Even if we forget, just know that justice is coming, it may take longer but it is coming, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
