Ephesians 4:13
until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
What will happen in the future is a result of our daily activities. Our daily activities contribute toward the final goal that we will attain. What we do or don’t do contributes towards a goal we have chosen or one that circumstances will force upon us. What goal are you striving towards?
If you choose a goal the next thing is to work towards it. Select activities that will contribute to attaining your goal. Identify things to leave out that do not contribute to your goal. By choosing what to do and what not to do, you are working towards your goal. Are you working towards any goal?
There are many types of goals. Goals that you choose. Goals that you didn’t think of but out of carelessness or God’s grace you find yourself having attained them. Good goals. Bad goals. Some goals are not worth the effort. But there is a goal that is worthy. Are you working towards this worthy goal?
A goal that God has chosen for us to work on is a worthy goal. It is a worthy goal because God does not make mistakes. God is not engaged in trial and error. When God gives a goal, that is a worthy goal. If we attain that worthy goal, we shall achieve and experience much more good than we ever anticipated. Are you working towards this worthy goal?
In his letter to the church in Ephesus, Paul mentions a worthy goal that the believers should individually and collectively pursue. He explains that Jesus Christ gave the church gifts, Ephesians 4:11. He gave some to be apostles and others to be prophets. He also gave others to be evangelists, pastors, and teachers. Why did Jesus give these gifts and abilities to church members? The answer is, that Jesus, did this to equip people so that the church may be built up, Ephesians 4:12. The building up of the church is not the goal. The goal is reaching unity, Ephesians 4:13. Unity is the worthy goal. Are you working towards this worthy goal?
Unity is the worthy goal that we should work towards as individuals and as a church. Unity will lead to maturity, Ephesians 4:13. Through unity we will attain complete Christlikeness. Without unity, we will never be Christlike. That makes unity a worthy goal to pursue. Are you working towards this worthy goal?
Unity is a worthy goal for any church. Unity is a worthy goal for a neighborhood. Unity is a worthy goal for a family. Unity is a worthy goal for couples. Unity is a worthy goal for parents. Unity is a worthy goal for siblings. Unity is a worthy goal for team members. Are you working towards this worthy goal?
To attain unity, you bring out the best in yourself and combine it with the best you find in others. To attain unity you tone down as you try by God’s grace to eliminate your worst tendencies, as you ignore and play down the worst tendencies of others. Unity makes people be one, with a common goal. Where there is unity the smallest and weakest are supported by the big and strongest. Unity kills competitiveness. Unity aims at synergy. Unity indeed is a worthy goal! Are you working towards this worthy goal?
Unity makes us value others as we value ourselves and many times even more. Unity is not about giving fifty-fifty but giving your all to help everyone and everyone, in turn, does the same for you. Unity is a deliberate choice to see the good in others and ignore their worst. Unity makes the community a better place. Are you working towards this worthy goal?
Are you making deliberate contributions at your workplace so that there is unity? Are you contributing towards unity in your relationships? May God help us work towards unity in the church and everywhere else, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
