Attention To Details!

1 Kings 6:20 – The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty wide and twenty high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of cedar.

There is a difference between obsession with details and attention to details. Obsession is an unhealthy concern for details. Obsession with detail is being concerned about details for details sake.

Those obsessed with details may feel better than others because they know the details. Those obsessed with details may be satisfied that they know the details even when they don’t apply them as intended. We should not be obsessed with details. We should have attention to details.

It’s easy to be obsessed with details of healthy living and we forget to live happy fulfilling lives. We can be so obsessed with what is healthy that we spend our life being careful and unhappy. Obsessive concern becomes an end in itself.

When we are obsessed we do not even apply common sense. The details become more important than basic reasoning. We should not be obsessed with details but have attention to details.

Those who are obsessed with details would not have allowed David to eat bread from the sanctuary when he was hungry, 1 Samuel 21:1-6. That is holy bread in God’s presence. How can David a mere mortal eat it? That would be the concern of people obsessed with details.

Those obsessed with details would be concerned why disciples of Jesus are not fasting. For them fasting even without a reason is important. For them it is just do it because it is good to do it. Jesus dismissed them and said His disciples cannot fast when He is around, they have no reason to fast, Matthew 9:14. Don’t we have people today who insist on fasting and night vigils because it is programmed and for no other reason? Obsessed with details of what should be done!

Some people asked Jesus why His disciples ate wheat from the fields on Sabbath. They asked Jesus why He healed on Sabbath. They asked the healed man why he was carrying his beddings on Sabbath. Obsessed with details of how to keep the Sabbath without concern for human welfare.

If we get obsessed with details, our message on end of time will be focused on the details more than the coming Savior. We will be satisfied that we know what others don’t know. We will keep it complicated either because we don’t understand it well or we do not want others to know as much as we do. We will band together with those who are obsessed with detail and look at others as not ready for end of time.

It is obsession with detail that causes people to break away to form off shoot groups. The details become the focus and unity becomes secondary. We should be careful about obsession with details.

Attention to detail is completely different from obsession with details. Attention to detail looks at detail as a means to an end and not as the end in itself. Attention to detail seeks to ensure the desired goal is reached. We should have attention to detail!

A student obsessed with detail is satisfied that they have all that is required for an exam. A student who has attention to detail looks at requirements as one of the many things towards passing the exam. That is why some times a student with everything fails and one with limited resources passes. One prepared wholistically for the exam, the other one stopped at having detailed requirements.

Our text today is from a chapter that explains in details how the most magnificent temple was built. Solomon’s temple remains historically as the most magnificent temple. It was built in great detail. Magnificence comes from attention to detail.

If you want to excel in life have attention to detail. Know the details. Apply the details. Be concerned about details, looking at them as building blocks towards a goal. Have attention to details!

As a student do not be satisfied that you woke up early. Do not be satisfied that your uniform is clean. Do not be satisfied that you have all requirements. Do not be satisfied that you are in a good school. Do not be satisfied by details, instead look beyond the details and use them to achieve academic excellence.

We need attention to details in finances until we attain financial freedom. It’s not enough to have a budget. The budget should be a means to achieving your objectives comfortably.

We need attention to details in everything we do everyday. The details are steps we take towards a goal. The details shouldn’t excite us. Following the steps towards the goal that excites us is what matters. Where are those details leading you to?

Attention to details in relationship should lead to a happy fulfilling life. Obsession with details will cause us to police our partners and make life hell on earth. We need attention to details!

The details of the temple led to the completion of a beautiful temple. Where are your details leading you to? The small things that you are concerned about, where are they leading? Are they taking you where you want to go?

You are so concerned about all details in an organization, where does that lead to? You are so concerned about the details in someone else’s private life, where will that lead to? You are so concerned about what happened or what was said, but not about reconciliation, what is your logical end? Where are the details leading you to?

Dear God save us from obsession with details. Grant us a proper attention to detail. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
