Be Afraid When You Fear The Solution

Mark 5:15-17
(15) When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and THEY WERE AFRAID. (16) Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man—and told about the pigs as well. (17) Then the people began to PLEAD WITH JESUS TO LEAVE THEIR REGION.

A solution is designed to address problems. We don’t love problems therefore we quickly embrace solutions. We all desire solutions. We spend a lot of money to get solutions. Ideally, therefore, we do not fear solutions.

However, what happens if you fear solutions? What does it mean, if you are terrified by that which ends your problems? How do we interpret your behavior, if you are made uncomfortable by a solution that ends your problems?

Mark 5:3-4
(3) This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. (4) For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him.

Jesus came to the region of the Gerasenes. This region had a problem of an unstoppable demon-possessed man who posed a threat to himself and others. He was so dangerous and he couldn’t be contained or tied down even by chains. People lived in fear of meeting him for he could cause them harm.

Mark 5:8-10
(8) For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”
(9) Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.” (10) And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.

The second problem in the Gerasenes was the abundance of evil spirits that had claimed it as their territory. A lot of evil things must have been happening in the area due to this claim by evil spirits. The people must have felt that something is wrong with their territory but they couldn’t truly verify what the problem was.

When Jesus came into this area, He solved their twin problems. Jesus restored the sanity of the man and therefore the community was now safe and feelings of fear were now long gone. Jesus scratched where it was itching. Jesus solved their problem.

Jesus also solved their second problem by sending the demons into the herd of pigs and leading them to drown. Though pigs were lost in death, the demons were sent away from the area. Jesus solved their problems!

Jesus was the symbol of the solutions they seriously needed in life. Jesus was the solution to all their troubles. Jesus was the answer to their hardest questions.

The Bible tells us that when they saw that Jesus had solved all their problems, they were afraid. They were afraid because their gods and best religion hadn’t solved their problem, therefore Jesus was superior to them all. Sometimes we fear solutions when they expose that what we depended on wasn’t worth depending on!

When the people noticed that Jesus was the ultimate solution, they begged him to leave their territory. They are asking the solution to all their problems to go away and leave them with their problems. How do you reject a solution? Be afraid when you fear the solution!

You can easily get so used to your problem that you become afraid of the solution. You are so used to an abusive relationship that you hate the counselor who shows you a better way. You are so used to having no money, that you fear changing your ways and improving your finances. That you are so used to a false religion, false denomination, and false church, that if you heard the Bible truth preached, you will reject the truth and prefer your falsehood. Be afraid when you fear the solution!

How do you respond to solutions that you are given? A solution to your failure in school. A solution to your bad dreams and nightmares. A solution to your troubled relationship. A solution to your health. Be afraid when you fear the solution!

Jesus solved all their problems and they were afraid of Him instead of embracing Him? Jesus solved all their problems and they begged Him to go away from their area. May God save us from being blinded by problems to the extent of disliking the solution, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
