Because God Wants…

Revelation 4:11
“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being.”

This chapter of the book of Revelation gives us a glimpse of events around the throne of God. What captures our attention today are the words in the praise made by the twenty-four elders. The twenty-four elders tell God that He is worthy to receive honor and power. The reason they give is that God created everything and that they exist by God’s will.

What they are saying is that creation took place because God wanted. Everything exists and is alive because God wants. The entire universe runs and operates as God wants and because God wants. What God wants is God’s will. We are because God wants. We exist because God wants. Because God wants…

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Even temptations have to be approved by God. Satan may tempt us but God is watching and regulating. Unless God allows it, no temptation will come our way. This world and we, in particular, exist because God wants. All our trials and temptations are happening because God wants. Because God wants it can suddenly end. Matthew 19:7
They said to him, “Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce and to send her away?”

Matthew 19:8
He said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

God’s will was that there should be no divorce. But because people insisted God allowed it. It is not His original will but He has willed that we learn the painful way by giving us what we insist on. We should learn to accept God’s will rather than insisting on our own way. Once we pray and do our best, we should accept the outcome of what God wants, then move on.

Knowing that I am here because God wants is comforting. Knowing that all that is happening to me is because God wants, means He is in control of my life. Even when all seems to go wrong I am glad to know that He who saves has allowed it. It is happening because God wants!

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Matthew 6:10
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

God has good plans for us according to Jeremiah. What God wants for us is good. Even if He allows some pain, the purpose is never to harm us. Eventually what He wants which is our welfare will happen. Since what God wants for us is good, Jesus taught us to pray for God’s will to be done. When we pray for God’s will to be done, we are praying for good things to happen to us. His will is what He wants. May what God wants to happen on earth happen as it happens in heaven. May what God wants for me happen, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
