2 Chronicles 2:5
“The temple I am going to build will be great, because our God is greater than all other gods.
2 Chronicles 2:9
to provide me with plenty of lumber, because the temple I build must be large and magnificent.
Solomon has taken over the leadership of Israel as King. Solomon replaces his father King David. Solomon’s first assignment that he prioritizes over all others is to build a temple for God, 2 Chronicles 2:1.
God granted Solomon great wisdom and wealth. God granted Solomon unequaled wisdom and wealth. Solomon used that wisdom and wealth to build a place of worship for God.
What are our priorities? A new king had a lot to do but his priorities included a service to God. What are your priorities? When Solomon was given wisdom and wealth, he made priorities to include a place of worship for God. With the knowledge, wisdom, and wealth you possess, what are your priorities? Make God and the things of God to be a priority and your success will be beyond your own expectations!
Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Seeking God first so that everything else succeeds, remains the most open functional secret to success that many ignore. Seeking God first is the key to everything else being provided. Do you need everything else? Seek God first!
As Solomon prepares to build the temple, he writes a letter to Hiram king of Tyre asking for materials he could use for construction. That letter is a major portion of the chapter of our consideration today. It is in that letter that Solomon explains to Hiram why the building he is planning for must be big, great, and magnificent.
Solomon requests a huge amount of materials and he knows Hiram will wonder why all these materials. He knows Hiram will ask himself, how big is this construction. Therefore, Solomon answers the unasked questions to satisfy the arising curiosity. Solomon, in our texts today, explains why the construction must be big, great, and magnificent.
Solomon tells Hiram that since his God is great, he must build for Him a great temple. He further says that even the best and largest temple cannot accommodate the God of Israel, but even then, this place where sacrifices will be offered and worship done, must be great and magnificent, because He is a greater God than all gods.
Solomon teaches us that when you do things for God, do them in a big way because He is a great God. If it is for God, make it great. If it is for God, make it magnificent. If it is for God do it in a big way!
Are you making offerings for God? Do it in a big way. Do you want to serve God? Do it in a big way. Do you want to praise God? Do it in a big way. Do you want to worship God? Do it in a big way. Are you planning a worship event? Do it in a big way? Are you going to sing or preach? Do it in a big way. Are you planning programs for God’s place of worship? Do it in a big way. Whatever you do as God’s child, do it in a big way because He is a greater God. It must be done in a big way!
Oh God, you are our great God. None is equal or greater than you. Forgive us for not doing things in a big way. Help us from today onwards, to do everything and particularly what we do for You to be in a big way, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
