Numbers 7:10 – When the altar was anointed, the leaders brought their offerings for its dedication and presented them before the altar.
Numbers 7:11 – For the LORD had said to Moses, “Each day one leader is to bring his offering for the dedication of the altar.”
Numbers chapter seven records the names of who brought offerings and everything they brought as offerings. The details can be boring and irritating. The details seem too much. The details seem repetitive. The details seem to bore the reader. Why does God inspire the writing of such details?
Read that chapter in its entirety. It may seem superficially to be carrying no message. Name after name. Under each name are details of everything they gave! Why all such details?
There is one clear point, God cares and is concerned about who gives offerings and who doesn’t. God is concerned and cares about what each person gives to great detail. God cares about who gives and what they give.
Why does God have it written in the Bible? God can remember everything without it being written, so it wasn’t written for God’s memory. Was it written as a standard for our giving? So that we can always give similar offerings? No! What they have isn’t the set standard of what we give. Was it written so that we celebrate the givers and honor them as saints or heroes? No! So, why were so much such details preserved and inspired for us? There is one loud message – God cares about who gives and what they give.
2 Corinthians 8:1-3 – And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own,
2 Corinthians 8:7 – But since you excel in everything —in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
Apostle Paul tells the Corinthian church that Macedonian churches which are poorer than them have given generously. He asks the Corinthians to also give. He tells the Corinthians that they have excelled in everything except giving. God knew Macedonian gave. God knew Corinthians hadn’t given. God knew their economic abilities. God cares about who gives and what they give.
God knew what poor Macedonian churches had given. God knew that Corinthians were better off economically yet they hadn’t given anything. God cares about who gives and what they give.
1 Corinthians 16:1 – Now about the collection for the Lord’s people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do.
Galatians had given. What they gave and how they gave was recorded. Corinthians hadn’t given anything. Apostle Paul urges them to give as the Galatians had done. God cares about who gives and what they give.
Mark 12:41 – Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.
Jesus went to the place of worship and sat strategically to see who gives and what they were giving. Jesus sat with His disciples and they could tell that their Master came to see who gave and what they gave. What was His lesson or point to His disciples and us? God cares about who gives and what they give.
God still cares who gives and what they give. God cares if you give and He even cares about what you gave. God cares about who gives and what they give.
If in faithfulness to God you give tithes and offerings, knowing very well it will affect your budget which has less income and more basic needs, take note that God cares. God knows you have trusted Him more. God knows you have entrusted your life to Him. God will look at your sacrifice and bless you because He cares. God cares about who gives and what they give.
God knows each of us. He knows if we are stingy or selfish. God knows our financial abilities. God knows if we can afford to give. God knows if what you gave is too big for the poor church but too little compared to your ability. God cares about who gives and what they give.
When a church project stalls and people struggle to achieve God’s will, God knows whose giving is delaying the project. God knows who should give and what they should. God cares about who gives and what they give.
As offering time comes and people give, only God knows who can give and what they should give. God watches who gives and what they give. God cares about who gives and what they give.
May God forgive us and save us from being stingy and selfish. May God forgive us for giving too much according to the poor congregation but too little in relation to our ability. May we always remember that God knows and cares about WHO gives and WHAT they give. In Jesus’s name, Amen!

Indeed we can’t mock God, utmost honesty does lie with Him. He knows and does care.
Amen!
Amen. I really struggled because I used to give from my stipend. Little did I know that God is such caring, how He has opened doors now is beyond what I could imagine. Be blessed Prof.
Amen!
