Even Important Things Have The Right Time Not Any Time

Joshua 5:7
So he raised up their sons in their place, and these were the ones Joshua circumcised. They were still uncircumcised because they had not been circumcised on the way.

God ordered Abraham that he should get circumcised and that all his male descendants get circumcised as a sign of allegiance to God, Genesis 17:10-12. Therefore, this practice distinguished Israelites from the majority of communities that never practiced circumcision. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were circumcised. Descendants of Jacob the Israelites were circumcised.

Circumcision went on among Israelites even when they were slaves in Egypt. When God saved them from Egypt and they traveled to Canaan they were unable to continue with circumcision. The journey took forty years and for those years circumcision did not occur. Circumcision was such an important covenant yet it had to wait for the appropriate time. Even important things have the right time and not any time!

Circumcision was very important, extremely important yet it had to wait for forty years when the time was right. Important doesn’t mean it must be done here and now, it must be done at the right time. Marriage is important but children have to wait to grow up for them to marry and get married. Even important things have the right time and not any time!

Resting is good for health, however, you can’t rest the whole day. The right time to rest is after work and not before work. Rest is important but not anytime is good for rest. Vacations are good my dear friend but there must be work first then vacation. Even important things have the right time and not any time!

All sermons are important but not any sermon can be preached at any time unless you have clear instructions from God. You cannot take advantage of a hostage congregation (wedding, funeral, and other congregations of the like) and offend people in the name of telling them the truth. You may cause more harm than good. The truth must be spoken in love. Your sermon is important, but is it the most effective time to share it in that manner? Even important things have the right time and not anytime!

The right time is when God says so and or when circumstances favor the situation. After forty years, God ordered the circumcision to take place. This was the right time. Even important things have the right time and not anytime!

May God grant us the patience to wait for the right time. May God help us with wisdom to discern the right time, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
