Isaiah 2:12
The LORD Almighty has a day in store
for all the proud and lofty,
for all that is exalted
(and they will be humbled),
Isaiah 2:17
The arrogance of man will be brought low
and human pride humbled;
the LORD alone will be exalted in that day,
Contemporary English Version
The LORD All-Powerful has chosen a day when those who are proud and conceited will be put down.
At times it seems like God is absent or He doesn’t care about what is happening. We pray we plead, we cry and nothing seems to happen. We are left wondering, does He care? Will He ever respond? The Bible’s answer is, God has a day in store!
When Lazarus got seriously sick and the sisters send an urgent word to Jesus, He seemed to delay. Did Jesus delay? Yes according to Martha and Mary. Did Jesus delay? No, because He had a day in store when He would solve the problem by raising Lazarus from death. When God seems silent or delayed, remember this, that for every matter, God has a day in store!
Isaiah tells the Israelites that there is hope. After all the suffering and troubles that sin and sinners will bring upon them, there is hope. Isaiah is the prophet of hope. He tells Israelites who are faithful to persevere because God has planned a day when He will reward their faithfulness. God has a day in store. He warns the wicked Israelites and nations that torment Israel that, while they may seem to enjoy impunity, it won’t last long because God has a day in store!
The day of the LORD is not just the Sabbath. The day of the LORD is also a reference to judgment day. The day of reckoning. The day when all that seems to have been ignored is brought up for discussion. The day when justice is done for the victims and perpetrators. That day will end the present order of corrupt life, and launch a new heaven and new earth of bliss and perfection. This day is therefore terrifying to the wicked and a pure blessing to the faithful. This is the day God has placed in store!
To have something in store is to preserve it for future use. To have something in store means you plan to use it someday. To have something in store is assurance that when you want to use it, you will have it. God has a day in store!
Not all justice and judgment wait for the end of the world. Noah’s flood was a day God kept in store. Fires that destroyed Sodom happened in a day God kept in store. Samson’s day of death with three thousand philistines was a day God kept in store. Death of Haman who wanted Mordecai and other Jews to die happened in a day God had kept in store. Some things will wait for the end of the world and others will be dealt with before that time and in our lifetime. Just keep in mind that, God has a day in store!
Are you suffering? Are you oppressed? Has someone who seems almighty denies you your rights? Do you feel helpless? Does it seem the world has connived against you? Is there someone or some people who seem invincible and are making your life unbearable? Be comforted by this, it may delay and seem like God won’t act and your troubles are in vain, but, God has a day in store!
Are you the troublemaker? Do you derive pleasure in being feared and terrorizing people? Are you using your powers and abilities to make life difficult? Are there people crying because of you somewhere? You are so rich you can buy justice? You are so connected no case against you can succeed? Be reminded, God has a day in store!
Isaiah tells us that God has a day in store when justice will be served. A day in store when punishment will be meted out. A day in store when a better life will be ushered in. God has a day in store. May this serve us as a warning and comfort, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
