Exodus 9:5 (NIV) – The LORD set a time and said, “Tomorrow the LORD will do this in the land.”
Exodus 9:18 (NIV) – Therefore, at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded till now.
God will not act haphazardly, He has set a time. God will not act on impulse, He has set a time. He is organized. He has a plan. There is a time for every item in His plan. God has set a time.
As plagues came down on Pharaoh and Egyptians, God wasn’t acting on impulse. He gave notice before every plague. In our passage today, God gives Pharaoh twenty four hours before He acts against them. The message to Pharaoh is that God has set a time, by which if you would not have released Israelites, He will fulfill His painfully punishing plague. God has set a time!
The setting of time in advance shows how merciful God is. He would have killed Pharaoh instantly. He would have unleashed terror without notice. Yet in mercy and grace, He tolerates Pharaoh’s defiance by setting a time. God has set a time!
When God doesn’t punish us instantly, it’s not because He agrees with our evil activities. He is merciful and gracious. However, be warned, God has set a time. He will respond, act and punish. God has set a time!
When you commit sin and you are not punished instantly, remember that God has set a time to punish, and that time is coming. Between now and the coming time of punishment, is a period of grace. The period of grace is an opportunity for us to confess and repent our sins and may be avert the coming punishment. Do not misunderstand the silence of God after you commit sin. God has set a time for your punishment, but for now, there is a grace period for you to repent.
You hurt other people or do other evil deeds and you get away with it? You didn’t get away with it, God has set a time and it’s coming. A time when you will pay for hurting others or whatever evil you committed. For now it’s a grace period. Do not think you have gotten away with it. God has set a time!
Israelites had to be patient. God was following a plan. Their salvation may seem delayed, but God has set a time. God will eventually save us even though there seems to be a delay in getting answers for prayers we made. God has set a time!
Is there someone who seems untouchable? You have prayed and nothing happens to them. Their evil plans and actions seem to thrive. Does it seem God can’t save you from this person or people? Remember Pharaoh also seemed invincible, but God set a time to end his reign of terror. Our salvation is coming, invincible people around us are living on borrowed time. God has set a time for them!
There is a deadline. Evil won’t rule forever. God has set a time. We will not suffer forever. God has set a time!
Jeremiah 29:10 (NIV) – This is what the LORD says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place.
God tells Israelites who have just arrived in Babylon, that He has set a time. They will not be there forever. God has set a time. After seventy years, God will pull them out of Babylon back to Israel. For the seventy years they may seem abandoned and forgotten, but God has set a time!
Daniel 2:21 (NIV) – He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.
Daniel tells us that God is in charge of time. God determines when and who to raise up. God determines who and when to bring down. God has set a time for everyone.
Daniel 8:14 (NIV) – He said to me, “It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be reconsecrated.”
The 2,300 days are prophetically interpreted as years. This are years that God set a time on when He will act. The years are from 457 BC to 1844 AD. This is just one more demonstration that God sets time. The following verse is the further interpretation of the 2,300 days.
Daniel 9:24-27 (NIV) – 24 “Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place. 25 “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. 26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed. 27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.”
This is the breakdown of the 2,300 years. The counting will begin at the time when an order to rebuild Jerusalem is given. The order to rebuild Jerusalem was given in 457 BC. That is when the counting of 2,300 years begin. God indeed has set a time.
Throughout the 2,300 years, events happen with a precision that can only tell us that, indeed God has set a time. Look at the following interpretation of the above Bible passage. Look at the exact occurrences Indeed God sets time!
7 weeks (49 years) rebuilding of the temple from 457 BC to 408 BC. That is exactly how long it took to rebuild the temple after Babylonian captivity.
62 weeks (434 years) from 408 BC to AD 27 when Jesus was baptised. After 434 years Jesus was baptized in AD 27 as predicted. God indeed has set a time.
The Bible talks of one week which is interpreted as seven years. The Bible says the Messiah will be cut off in the middle of the week, that is interpreted as after 3 and 1/2 years. Three and a half years after AD 27 is AD 31 when Jesus died on the cross. God indeed has set a time!
1 week (7 years) in the midst of the week Christ was to be cut off (3 1/2 years) – from baptism to death of Jesus 3 1/2 years from AD 27 to AD 31.
Another 3 1/2 years from AD 31 to AD 34 when Stephen was killed and gospel went beyond the Jews. God indeed has set a time!
1810 years remaining from AD 34 for the final phase of salvation to start. For investigative Judgment to begin – AD 34 plus 1810 years = AD 1844,
The point is that God has set a time. God has set a time for the world. God has set a time for each person. Suffering will end on set time. Salvation will come on set time. Prayers will be answered at the set time. The world will end on set time. Hod has set a time!
Galatians 4:4 (NIV) – But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
There was a set time for Jesus to be born. It was not haphazard. It was planned by the God who sets time.
Acts 17:26-28 (NIV) – 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
Time and place is set for us. God set a time when we will be born and live in this world. Hod has even determined where we will live. We are alive because God set this time for us!
God has set a time for every detail of your life and mine. No good or bad happens by chance. God has set a time. He will not wait forever for us to get converted. He has set a time! We will not suffer forever, suffering will come to an end. He has set a time!
1 Peter 5:6 – Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
God will lift you up in due time. Due time is the set time. God has set a time when He will lift us up.
Don’t feel untouchable as you commit evil. God has set a time. Don’t delay making decisions to identify with God and His church, don’t delay, you may be locked out. Don’t give up when suffering, relief is coming. Your prayers will be answered in due time. God has set a time! In Jesus name, Amen!
