Jehu Was Ready! Are You Ready?

2 Kings 9:2-3 (NIV) – 2 When you get there, look for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Go to him, get him away from his companions and take him into an inner room. 3 Then take the flask and pour the oil on his head and declare, ‘This is what the LORD says: I anoint you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run; don’t delay!”

Jehu was chosen because he was ready for action. What was supposed to be done was already in his heart. How it was supposed to be done was already in his heart. Jehu was ready! Are you ready?

Jehu may not have not known that he was ready, that is why he was relaxing with friends. God knew Jehu was ready. God chose him because he was ready. Are you ready?

God needed a leader who is ready to take action without hesitation. God needed a person who will urgently attend to the deteriorating situation. God needed a fierce courageous bold person who would stop at nothing until the job is done. Jehu was ready and God picked him for the job. Are you ready?

Joram son of Ahab was as evil as his father and his mother Jezebel. Joram propagated the evil of his parents in Israel the northern kingdom. Ahab and Jezebel grabbed land from Naboth and killed him, yet nothing had been done to address this injustice. Many religious leaders and military leaders were still discussing and planning how to address the situation. They were not ready. God wanted a man who is ready. Jehu was ready! Are you ready?

Ahaziah king of Judah became as evil as Ahab, Jezebel and Joram. He copied all the evil ways of these three. He was a friend to Joram. Under Ahaziah the evil of northern kingdom spread and took root in the southern kingdom. God needed urgent action. Wise leaders were studying the matter and consulting in their secret meetings, but no action. God was fed up! God needed instant action against these evils and not further strategizing. God chose Jehu because he was ready. Are you ready?

2 Kings 9:3 (NIV) – Then take the flask and pour the oil on his head and declare, ‘This is what the LORD says: I anoint you king over Israel.’ THEN OPEN THE DOOR AND RUN; DON’T DELAY!”

2 Kings 9:6-10 (NIV) – 6 Jehu got up and went into the house. Then the prophet poured the oil on Jehu’s head … THEN HE OPENED THE DOOR AND RAN.

When Elisha sent a young prophet to anoint Jehu, he warned him that he must run away immediately. Jehu was going to suddenly rise to action and anyone on his path could easily get crashed. Therefore anoint him and run for your life because actions will begin instantly. Jehu was ready and God knew it. Are you ready?

The running away of the messenger may have had many meanings. Running so that the regime spies don’t catch him. Running to avoid questions. However, he also ran away to create the urgency of the moment and inspire instant action that Jehu was ready for. The running away had an impact and Jehu swang into action. He was ready. Are you ready?

Jehu went straight away and immediately killed Joram, Ahaziah and Jezebel. No further discussion. No further delay. God had commanded and it was done. He was ready and he acted. Are you ready to act on what must be done?

When God called Noah to build the Ark, he was ready and acted immediately. When God called Abraham to relocate, he was ready and acted immediately. When David saw Goliath, he killed him immediately, yet armies of Israel plus their king had observed him for forty days! David killed him instantly, no delay, he was ready! Are you ready?

Disciples followed Jesus immediately. They left fishing immediately. They left tax collections immediately. Zaccheus repented immediately. Apostle Paul responded to God’s confrontation immediately. They were all ready for instant action. Are you ready?

There is something that God wants done. You are able to do it. You are available to do it. But are you ready? God wants men and women of instant action? God will only anoint a man or woman who will immediately rise up and do the job without much a do. Jehu was ready pending anointing. Are you ready?

Don’t act without anointing. Disciples were to wait in Jerusalem until they got anointed by the Holy Spirit. After anointing they immediately and without delay started preaching and converts came in. They were ready pending anointing. Are you ready?

Are you ready and just waiting for divine anointing? Ready to address your personal challenges. Ready to address family issues. Ready to address community problems. Ready to contribute solutions to church problems. Ready to tackle national issues. Ready to solve international problems. You need divine anointing first. God only anoints those that HE knows they are ready like Jehu. Are you ready?

Make me ready dear God. Make me obedient. When You know am ready, anoint me to act instantly on whatever You assign me. Forgive us for laziness, fear and reluctance to act that masquerades as wisdom that is strategizing and studying the situation. Make us as instant and ready as Jehu, and may You be glorified in the end. In Jesus name, Amen!
