Leviticus 9:7 (NIV) – Moses said to Aaron, “Come to the altar and sacrifice your sin offering and your burnt offering and make atonement for yourself and the people; sacrifice the offering that is for the people and make atonement for them, as the LORD has commanded. ”
Leviticus 9:7 (Message Bible) – Moses instructed Aaron, “Approach the Altar and sacrifice your Absolution-Offering and your Whole-Burnt-Offering. Make atonement for yourself and for the people. Sacrifice the offering that is for the people and make atonement for them, just as God commanded.”
Leviticus chapter nine explains how public worship was done around the Sanctuary in the days of the Old Testament. One quickly notices the detailed procedures that are followed. The specification on what kind of offerings were acceptable. Clearly attention to detail was key.
After Moses has commanded Aaron and other priests to begin the worship, he adds this statement that we should consider today – just as God commanded. Moses tells them that whatever they do, they must keep in mind what God commanded. This is your true north. Just as God commanded.
As you lead worship, you may be tempted to impress the people, please don’t, this is not entertainment. Just as God commanded is your guiding principle. Do what God wants and let the people adjust to it!
As you lead worship, you may be tempted to take shortcuts. You may be tempted to focus on what is convenient. Please remember convenience cannot override what God commanded. The message is, do it, just as God commanded.
When it comes to the day of worship, it should be, just as God commanded. Not as religious leaders interpret it. Just as God commanded. Hours of the day of worship are twenty four and not just when we are in church. Just as God commanded.
We should live our lives guided by this same principle. Just as God commanded. We handle money, just as God commanded. We get involved in relationships, just as God commanded. Our conduct at work and in school is just as God commanded. Our spiritual life is defined by what God commanded.
We read scripture daily to know what God commanded. We read scripture daily to be reminded what God commanded. Our entire life in worship and outside worship is lived, just as God commanded!
If we do not live just as God commanded, we are living in defiance of a holy God. How far can one go in defiance of God? Can worship be accepted if it is conducted in defiance of God? Will prayers be answered if they are made in defiance of God? Can life be successful and fulfilling if it is defiance of God?
It is in our best interests to do things, just as God commanded. May God forgive us for ignoring His commands in order to impress people or do things conveniently. May God help us to stick to what he commanded, in Jesus name, Amen!
