Restoration of Splendor

Nahum 2:2
The LORD will restore the splendor of Jacob
like the splendor of Israel,
though destroyers have laid them waste
and have ruined their vines.

Contemporary English Version
Judah and Israel are like trees with branches broken by their enemies. But the LORD is going to restore their power and glory. *

Good News Translation
The LORD is about to restore the glory of Israel, as it was before her enemies plundered her.)

New Living Translation
Even though the destroyer has destroyed Judah, the LORD will restore its honor. Israel’s vine has been stripped of branches, but he will restore its splendor.

Splendor is power and glory. Splendor is glory. Splendor is an honor. Splendor is the final shine of a product. Splendor is the icing sugar of a cake. Splendor is the air of admiration that hangs around us. Splendor is what makes us proud and makes others proud of us. Splendor is the final product of success. God says today that I will restore your splendor!

When Israel has been punished for sin, God will restore them. During punishment for sin, Israel lost nationhood, Jerusalem the capital, and even the temple. God promises to restore all these things through other prophets. Nehemiah and Ezra will restore the wall and the Temple. Zerubabel will restore the temple. But in our text today, God promises to restore that which probably we would have forgotten to ask for. God will restore their splendor!

If we were to list what we want to be restored, we would list basic needs. We would ask for food, shelter, and clothing. We would probably ask for a strong army. We would ask for a closer walk with God. Then we would be satisfied that all is well. But God, adds to us what we never expected that it would be restored. God will restore their splendor!

Splendour would be the highest need in Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. It would be self-actualization. God says I will restore everything in that triangle of needs, from the bottom basic to the topmost that we think we are okay without. I will restore the splendor of Israel!

God will restore the splendor of Israel. God will cause their armies to be admired and feared. God will make Israel products and system of government to be highly admired. God will sanitize their reputation. I will restore the splendor!

Have you lost your splendor? Lost splendor in your business? Lost splendor at your workplace? Lost splendor in your marriage? Lost splendor in your academic work? Lost splendor of your health? Lost splendor of everything…? God says, I will restore your splendor!

Dear God restore my splendor in every aspect of life in Jesus’ name, Amen!
