Ezra 3:6
On the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, though the foundation of the LORD’s temple had not yet been laid.
Contemporary English Version
Although work on the temple itself had not yet begun, the people started offering sacrifices on the LORD’s altar on the first day of the seventh month of that year.
Good News Translation
Although the people had not yet started to rebuild the Temple, they began on the first day of the seventh month to burn sacrifices to the LORD.
Israelites had just returned from seventy years of captivity in Babylon and under Medo-Persia. They were looking around the ruins of their former homes, former city, and former temple. Their hostile neighbors were watching them too closely as a constant threat. This was a difficult and confusing time.
Under these difficulties, they built an altar to the LORD. They were afraid but they built the altar. They defied fear and actual looming danger to build that altar. Nothing else was ready nor clear but they started worshipping. Even if nothing else is ready, start worshipping!
Plans to rebuild the walls were not ready but they started worshiping. Plans to rebuild the temple were not ready but they started worshiping. Plans to vet the people and distribute responsibilities and homes were not ready but they started worshiping. Nothing was ready but they started worshiping. Even if nothing is ready, start worshiping!
Worship connects you to God. Worship connects what you are doing with God. Worship invites God to your present situation. Worship combines human efforts to divine limitless power. Worship is the secret to success. Worship is the guarantee that you won’t lose. Worship is the game changer. To delay or miss worship is to risk lose and embarrassment. Worship is therefore, so critical that even before anything else is ready, you begin with worship!
Many other things may require assessment and strategic implementation, but worship can’t wait. You can delay everything but don’t postpone or delay worship. You may need time off some stuff, but you don’t need time off worship. You can have excuses to permit delay, but no excuse should permit delay of worship! Even if nothing is ready, start worshiping!
Begin with worship, continue with worship, and end with worship. Other things may wait or delay but not worship. Worship is first a state of mind, a consciousness that you are in the presence of God, praise, Bible study, and prayers. Worship can be anywhere anytime.
The most basic aspect of worship is prayer. Hence the fact that it doesn’t need any further preparation other than your willingness and recognition of the need to pray. Even if nothing is ready, start worshiping!
Many things are not ready and need time, but start worshiping now. You are not ready for marriage but start worshiping. You are not ready for exams but start worshiping. Israelites started worshiping before the foundation could even be laid.
Help us to always worship even when nothing else is ready, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
