1 Chronicles 9:1 (NIV) – All Israel was listed in the genealogies recorded in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. They were taken captive to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.
We live in a highly opinionated society. Most people feel they have an opinion and they have a right to be heard. Most people look at occurrences around and they have an explanation on why things are happening the way they are happening.
We live at a time when there are more educated people. We have experts in almost every discipline. The experts write articles explaining why things are happening the way they are happening. The experts give opinions on TV, Radio and social media. After listening to their opinions we may be tempted to believe that we fully understand our world and why things are happening.
Like any other time in history, we don’t have a shortage of conspiracy theorists. People who claim to know the unknown behind the scenes operations of why and how things are happening the way they are happening. They are sensational and highly convincing to certain caliber of people, who consequently believe they now know why things happen.
In this time and age we also have people who believe in witchcraft. People who believe that evil forces have been commanded and commandeered by certain people to bring about what we see. Such people see more evil spirits around us than they see the Omnipresence of God. Given a chance to speak or pray, they will make a reference to evil spirits surrounding us and seeking to harm us, more than they will make reference to God’s presence that overwhelmingly stops evil spirits. This group of people also believe that they know why things are happening.
1 Chronicles 9:1 (NIV) – All Israel was listed in the genealogies recorded in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. They were taken captive to Babylon BECAUSE OF THEIR UNFAITHFULNESS.
When Israel was taken to captivity, the highly opinionated society must have had convincing reasons. Military experts must have talked of strategic failures. Sociologists may have referred to failing social structures. Economists must have been very sure of the economic theories that explain the failure. Conspiracy theorists knew the unknown. Those who see evil spirits must have seen them surrounding Israel. None of them was right or on point!
The Bible tells us that, the core reason was unfaithfulness to God. Simply put – sin. If they had not sinned against God, they wouldn’t have gone to Babylonian captivity. All explanations put out there wouldn’t take them to captivity even if they were true. The main reason they were taken to captivity was their personal sins and collective guilt. No other reason is true. Yet this is the most ignored reason on why things happen.
Isaiah 59:1-2 (NIV) – 1 Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. 2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.
God can save from any and every situation. Nothing is too difficult for God. Nothing is impossible with God. Therefore when things happen, it has to do with what God has done or not done. Any other reason is inconsequential.
God can stop death and reverse death. God can instantly heal any disease. God can change the heart of anyone. God can force people and nature to do His will. God is not at the mercy of theories, nature and circumstances. God can override and have His will.
God can save from anyone and everything at anytime, but sin separates us from God. God doesn’t save nor intervene because we are sinners. Our predicament is because of sin. Until the sin problem is solved, our problems will persist, taking on a new shape everyday. The sin problem is the most ignored reason on why things happen.
We should therefore always commence problem solving by confession and repentance. Not the routine confession and repentance, but genuine soul searching and seeking God’s favor. God will help us to fix the rest.
Other things happen as temptations to cause us to sin and not trust God. The case in point is Job in the Bible. Satan brought him problems to tempt him to sin.
Things happen the way they happen because of sin or because we are being tempted. In both cases, victory is found in God. Any other explanation however clever it may be, if it ignores the God perspective, it is false and a non-starter.
May God save us from sin and temptation. May God step in and help us solve our problems. They may be social, financial, academic, physical or spiritual, but the main reason is either sin or temptation. Save us from sin and its consequences. Save us from temptations. In Jesus name, Amen!
