The Ultimate Success Formula

1 Chronicles 5:21-22
(21) They seized the livestock of the Hagrites—fifty thousand camels, two hundred fifty thousand sheep and two thousand donkeys. They also took one hundred thousand people captive, (22) and many others fell slain, because the battle was God’s. And they occupied the land until the exile.

The tribes of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh went to war against some Canaanite tribes. Our text today records that they won the battle. The Bible records that they seized thousands of camels, sheep, and donkeys from Hagrites, a Canaanite tribe. How did they manage to get such a great victory?

The Bible goes on to say that they did not just seize animals from Hagrites but also occupied their land until Israel was taken into captivity. They took Hagrite’s property and drove them away from their home. The Bible records that they also killed many of their fighting men. How did they manage to get such a great victory?

The Bible tells us that the secret of their success is not just military strategy. It is not the generals leading the fight. It is not in the resources at their disposal. It is not even in their experience in fighting battles. The Bible says they got all these victories because the battle was God’s.

The battle was God’s. God had taken their battle and made it His own. God was fighting they were only present on the battlefield. God who doesn’t lose took over the battle. When God makes a battle His own, the only thing that can happen is victory. The ultimate success formula is to give God your battle!

God will not take up a battle that is unfair and unjust. God will not take up a battle to feed our greed. God will not take up a battle that will cause us to live contrary to His will. God will not take up a battle to fight people we have refused to forgive. God only takes up battles that are consistent with His will. God only takes up battles of people who are faithful to Him. God only takes up battles to defend the helpless. Will God take up your battles? The ultimate success formula is to give God your battles!

May God take up our battles. Our financial battles. Our neighborhood battles. Our health battles. Our school battles. Our spiritual battles. Our social relationships battles. All our battles in Jesus’ name, Amen!
