John the Revelator sees a vision of 144,000 people being sealed. Sealing is a preparation for eternal life. They are from the twelve tribes of Israel. Are they the only ones to be saved? No! There will be people from all nations who having accepted Christ they also get counted as spiritual Israel. Salvation is not for Israelites alone, it is for Israelites and the whole world.
Revelation 7:4 – Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.
Revelation 7:9 – After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.
Immediately after this vision of 144,000 being sealed. John saw another multitude who had been saved in heaven. A multitude that nobody could count. A multitude from every nation, tribe, language and people. That confirms that more than the 144,000 will be saved.
The 144,000 are part of the people to be saved or are representative of the countless number of people who will be saved. That is the best biblical interpretation of the 144,000. Any interpretation that suggests that only the 144,000 will be saved is heretic and contradicts the text that talks of the countless numbers who will be saved.
An Elder who stays around the throne tells John that the innumerable saved people that he is seeing are the saved saints of all time. They have come out of the great tribulation. That caught our attention. They have gone through great tribulation.
