Unbelief Will Affect Us But It Can’t Stop God

God had decided to end the stinging food shortage in Samaria. The unbelief of one person was not about to stop God from accomplishing His good purpose. God still ended the food shortage, but the unbelieving man died without experiencing what he doubted. Unbelief will affect us but it can’t stop God!

Luke 1:20
And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”

Zechariah did not believe when the angel told him that he will have a child in his old age. The consequence of that unbelief is that he was made dump, unable to talk. It was a punishment for not believing what God had said. That unbelief affected him but it did not stop God from accomplishing His plan of giving them a child. Unbelief will affect us but it can’t stop God!

If God has purposed to do something and you do not believe, you will suffer for unbelief, but God will still accomplish that thing. God cannot be stopped. God will have His way. Whether we believe or not, God will keep acting and doing His work. It is in our favor and advantage to believe what He is doing. Zechariah was punished instantly for unbelief. Unbelief will affect us but it can’t stop God!

2 Kings 7:2
The officer on whose arm the king was leaning said to the man of God, “Look, even if the LORD should open the floodgates of the heavens, could this happen?”
“You will see it with your own eyes,” answered Elisha, “but you will not eat any of it!”

There was a great food shortage in Samaria. It was caused by a siege laid by Arameans. For there to be food the next day, excess food, the Arameans must move out and such a big army can’t move out overnight. Armies are organized and systematic. After they move out, people have to go to other places to buy and bring food. All that can’t happen overnight. Yet Elisha tells the king that same time the next day there will be excess food. For there to be excess food same time the next day it is hard to believe or fathom. The officer who serves the king told Elisha that what God had said is impossible. The officer said it will not happen or ever happen that there is excess food the next day.

Elisha told the unbelieving officer that the unbelief will cost his life. He will see the food but because of unbelief, he will not eat it. That night lepers who were outside the city were so hungry they decided to go to Aramean camp and ask for food. When they got there, they found too much food enough for the whole city. The Arameans had just escaped after God caused them to fear for their lives. The lepers reported back to Samaria. As people in Samaria rushed out for food from the Deserted Aramean army camp, the officer who doubted God’s word was trampled at the gate and he died. He saw the food but he didn’t eat. Unbelief will affect us but it can’t stop God!

Numbers 14:22-33. When Israelites left Egypt, they went to spy on the Promised Land. The report from the Promised Land caused them to doubt God’s plan. God told them that He will still take Israelites to the Promised Land, but all those who doubted will never get there. Anyone above 20 who doubted was to die in the desert over a period of 40 years. Anyone under 20 survived and made it to the Promised Land. God still accomplished His purposes but those who doubted were personally affected. Unbelief will affect us but it can’t stop God!

James 1:6-7
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. (7)That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

Doubt disqualifies us from receiving anything from God. We suffer in person when we doubt. God will still accomplish what He was planning to do, but He will do without those who doubt. Unbelief will affect us but it can’t stop God!

Mark 9:23-24
“‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
(24)Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

The father wanted Jesus to heal the boy. Jesus tells the father that healing will happen if he believes if he doesn’t doubt. Immediately the wise father realized he may be the loser here. He exclaimed in desperation that he believes but he needs help to overcome unbelief. “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” The father knew that unbelief can cost him the life of his son. The father pleaded that Jesus helps him deal with unbelief. Unbelief will affect us but it can’t stop God!

In the name of Jesus, this too is my prayer, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Amen!
