Daniel 4:26
The command to leave the stump of the tree with its roots means that your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge that Heaven rules.
Nebuchadnezzar wrote chapter four of the book of Daniel. Nebuchadnezzar was a Babylonian king, in present-day Iraq. Nebuchadnezzar, therefore, is one of the many people who wrote the Bible. The Bible is not a book for Israelites, it is for the whole world. The book of Luke and Acts were also written by a non-Jew. The Bible is not limited to Jews but is for everybody.
Nebuchadnezzar writes to let the whole world know that God of heaven, God of Israel gave him a vision. God warned him that he may be suspended from the throne. God warns before He acts. The warnings of God in scripture may look remotely possible or even superfluous but they do come to pass. Any promise in the Bible, good or bad, may delay, but it will come to pass.
In the vision that Nebuchadnezzar was given and later on interpreted by Daniel, he was told that God would take away the throne from him and then return it to him after seven years. He was told that God would turn him into a wild animal for seven years and then restore him. The only way to avoid this situation is what Daniel tells Nebuchadnezzar in our text today. When you acknowledge that heaven rules!
You will not be suspended from your throne if you acknowledge that heaven rules. You will be protected on that throne for as long as you live. But the day you forget that heaven rules and you insinuate that you are the one who rules, you will be kicked out of the throne. You will become a wild animal living in the wild until you acknowledge that heaven rules!
During your suspension from the throne, you will exit that terrible situation by acknowledging that heaven rules. But since God knows how hard-hearted we are, He knows it will take seven years for Nebuchadnezzar to discover that heaven rules. After seven years, when you confess that heaven rules, you will be restored.
The following confession by Nebuchadnezzar is what it means to acknowledge that heaven rules. Have you made this acknowledgment in your life?
Daniel 4:34
At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever.
His dominion is an eternal dominion;
his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
Daniel 4:35
All the peoples of the earth
are regarded as nothing.
He does as he pleases
with the powers of heaven
and the peoples of the earth.
No one can hold back his hand
or say to him: “What have you done?”
The only way we can avoid getting into trouble is when we acknowledge that heaven rules. Acknowledging that God is God and acts as He pleases and doesn’t do our will but His. God can’t be accused and taken to court. God doesn’t have to follow our rules of fairness. God can’t be stopped. God does as He pleases but He has good intentions for us His creatures. When you realize this and live your life with this understanding, you will have acknowledged that heaven rules!
When you are already in trouble, in hot soup, the way out is one, just acknowledge that heaven rules. Acknowledge genuinely. God responds to anyone who pledges allegiance to Him. Manasseh was a wicked king for fifty-five years. As Manasseh went to exile as punishment for his sins, he came to his senses and acknowledged that heaven rules, 2 Chronicles 33:10-13. Immediately Manasseh was restored. When you acknowledge that heaven rules. The prodigal son suffered in a foreign land, he confessed that the father rules and rules better, then he went home. The step out of trouble is one when you confess that heaven rules!
May God help us to live lives that acknowledge that heaven rules, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
