Ephesians 6:7 – Serve wholeheartedly, AS IF YOU WERE SERVING THE LORD, not people,
Colossians 3:24 – since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. IT IS THE LORD CHRIST YOU ARE SERVING.
A true Christian is excellent at what they do. A true Christian works without supervision. A true Christian is faithful and trustworthy. A true Christian is the best worker and the best business partner.
The Bible tells us today that while working at anything anywhere, Christians are conscious that they are offering a service to God and not human beings. Serving God is an endless inspiration to do our best at work. Human bosses aren’t present all the time but God is. Human bosses at some point lose interest in the work but God remains interested.
Human bosses may believe false gossip from fellow workers, but God cannot be fooled. Human bosses can feel insecure thinking our hard-work will replace them, but God doesn’t have insecurity issues. Human bosses may get tired of showing gratefulness for the sacrifices we make but God takes note and rewards. Human bosses can die or get fired or retire and with them goes the memory of our great sacrifices, but God ain’t going nowhere, He lives forever!
Human bosses make promises they can’t keep, they promise rewards then change their mind, but God is forever faithful. Human bosses under pay us and don’t deserve much of the services we offer at great sacrifice, but God deserves everything whether our death or life. Human bosses are more likely to act against our wishes in their favor if their relative is involved or if they have a personal interest, but God remains reliably fair all the time.
When you think that you are serving human bosses, experience will tell you to slow down, don’t sacrifice too much it’s not worth it. Very soon all efforts will go down the drain and get forgotten. When you think you are serving God, you up your game because every effort is worth it.
Hebrews 6:10 – God is not unjust; HE WILL NOT FORGET YOUR WORK and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
Christian workers think of their work as a service to God. With God in the picture, they offer the best services under any and all bosses and regimes. It is the LORD Christ they are serving.
How can you take a bribe when it is the LORD Christ you are serving? How can you procrastinate when it is the LORD Christ you are serving? How can you punish a client who didn’t treat you well, when you believe in forgiveness, and it is the LORD Christ you are serving? How can you falsify records to earn more when it is the LORD Christ who knows everything, that you are serving?
How can you do a false report to your superiors when it is the LORD Christ who knows everything, that you are serving? How can you miss work and fake sickness, yet it is the LORD Christ you are serving? How can you go slow and harm other people as you punish your bosses, yet your real boss is the LORD Christ? How can you sabotage you colleagues and supervisors yet it is the LORD Christ you are serving?
This is true of every true Christian at work and at home. In their service when employed or in business, it is the LORD Christ they serve. In their marriage and family responsibilities, they are consistent whether loved and appreciated or not, because it is the LORD Christ they are serving. May my Christianity be true so that wherever I work I emerge excellent, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
