Why Were The Safest and Untouchables Affected?

Lamentations 4:12-13
(12) The kings of the earth did not believe,
nor did any of the peoples of the world,
that enemies and foes could enter
the gates of Jerusalem.
(13) But it happened because of the sins of her prophets
and the iniquities of her priests,
who shed within her
the blood of the righteous.

Royal families, presidential families, and some extremely rich individuals are so privileged that they are safer than most of us and are actually untouchable. They hire highly-trained security officers to guard them. They have sophisticated gadgets to monitor their security. They have money to buy any services and goods they need. In every practical sense of the word, they are safe.

Royal families, presidential families, the very rich, and those in positions of power are untouchable. They have access to high-ranking officials who will very fast and without delay secure their release if anyone arrests them. They have enough monies to corrupt the justice system. They can buy the officials who would have punished them. They are untouchable. All those who touch the rest of us are below them and at their mercy. They are untouchable.

Exodus 19:5-6
(5) Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, (6) you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”

Israel was a privileged nation. God chose Israel to be unique and different from other nations. Israel was very safe because of God. God had put a hedge around Job, Job 1:10, and He had put a hedge around Israel. Israel was safe and untouchable. Who can break a hedge placed by God? Anyone placed within God’s hedge is safe and untouchable.

Zechariah 2:8
“…—for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye —“

God has secured His people like the apple of the eye. The apple of the eye is protected by fast frequent blinks. To reach the apple of the eye, you will deal with the owner of the eye. If we are the apple of God’s eye, we are safe and untouchable. Israel was the apple of God’s eye, they were safe and untouchable.

Deuteronomy 11:25
No one will be able to stand against you. The LORD your God, as he promised you, will put the terror and fear of you on the whole land, wherever you go.

Joshua 1:5
No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.

God promised that no one, no nation will ever defeat Israel. God promised that even at its weakest, Israel will be safe because of His promise. God promised that no one will have the guts to even threaten Israel. God said that He would put the fear of Israel in the hearts of all the enemies of Israel. God will make them fear Israel and if they are foolish enough to attack, God would Himself defeat them. Several times God caused the enemies of Israel to fight and kill each other. Israel and all leaders are chosen by God were safest and untouchable!

2 Kings 6:12
“None of us, my lord the king,” said one of his officers, “but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom.”

Enemies of Israel always wondered how Israel gathered so good intelligence. The King of Aram even suspected that some of his own people were spying for Israel. This is because, whatever he planned against Israel, Israel was ready for it. The soldiers told the king of Aram that God revealed to Elisha everything that happened anywhere, including what happens in the bedroom. God ensured Israel had all the requisite intelligence. Israel was safest and untouchable.

When Israel was attacked and destroyed by Assyrians and Babylonians it shocked the world. How could the safest and untouchable be destroyed with such ease? How could a most feared nation be brought down to nothing in a very short period of time? Why were the safest and untouchables affected?

The most ignorant answer that many run for is to look elsewhere except spiritually. Blame can be placed on Covid-19, but in reality, it is a spiritual failure. Blame can be placed on the economy but in reality, it is a spiritual failure. Blame can be placed on weather, lack of money, and equipment, but in reality, it is the refusal to repent sins. Blame can be placed on colleagues, enemies, lack of support, negative energy, and whatever else, but the Bible tells us the problem is sin. You can waste time and energy blaming everything and everyone, but until you address your personal sins, it will only get worse.

Israel was not breached because of military or political failure. Israel was not breached because of poor strategies and tactics. The Bible says Israel lost it when the religious leaders harbored sin. The sins of the religious leaders brought down the safest and the untouchable.

Sin can destroy your studies. Sin can destroy your job where you are employed. Sin can bring down your business. Sin can bring you ill health. Sin can break a love relationship. Sin can cause organizations and institutions to collapse. Sin is the main culprit for the safest and untouchables being affected. Whatever or whoever you blame and explain as the cause of your disaster if you don’t address sin, you are not very wise. May God forgive our sins so that we maintain our status of safest and untouchable, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
