Revelation 1:11
which said: “Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.”
Apostle John writes the experience that surrounded the writing of the book of Revelation. He was in prison on the island of Patmos, Revelation 1:9. Then he was taken into vision on the Lord’s day, Revelation 1:10. The Lord’s day according to Exodus 20:10 is the Sabbath. The Sabbath of the Lord thy God. The Lord’s day is the Sabbath. Mark 2:28 tells us that Jesus the Son of Man is the Lord of the Sabbath. The Lord’s day is not a different day from the Sabbath. John was taken into vision, into the Spirit on the Lord’s day, that is on Sabbath!
When Apostle John was taken into the vision he heard a voice that later he discovers is Jesus. Jesus tells him to write on a scroll what he sees. A scroll was the book of that time. On scrolls, information was recorded and shared. The written word was spread on scroll. The scroll was the latest mode of sharing information in those days.
We no longer have scrolls. The purpose of scrolls has evolved from scrolls to books to online material. If Jesus was to speak today asking John to write to the seven churches in seven cities, He would ask John to write it online. City churches can quickly be reached through online platforms.
Social media is a modern-day powerful information-sharing platform. The word goes faster through online platforms. They have become a source of news and the latest news for that matter. In our day, Jesus would have told John to write what you see and put it on his status. Share it on social media. Forward it to the seven churches.
Write what you see. That is what Jesus told John. That is exactly what we do on social media. We share words, pictures, and videos of what we are experiencing at the moment. Share your experience with the seven churches was the message to John. In our day it is, write it and share it on social media!
Jesus wanted John to reach as many people as possible. Though the message was to the seven Churches, Jesus knew that it would go beyond the seven churches. Whatever goes on social media today, may seem to target a few people, but it goes further and beyond. Write it and share it on social media!
Those who love soccer, football, and other games, always write their thoughts and share them on social media. Those who are passionate about politics will always write their opinion and share them on social media. Those who are going through certain experiences may want to write them and share them on social media. Those who are happy and sad will always share it on social media. Jesus speaks to His followers like you and me today and He says that we should write our experiences with Him and share them on social media!
Your experience with Jesus, write it and share it on social media. What has God done for you? What are you trusting God to do? What makes you praise God today? Why are you glad you are part of the faith community? Write what you see and share it with the seven churches, is as good as saying put it on social media. What point touched you in that sermon, clip it and put it on social media. Share the punchline that has stuck to you as you read or listened to God’s word. Write it and share it on social media!
If we can put our graduation on social media, our birthday on social media, our funerals on social media, our frustrations on social media, do not block Jesus away from that same social media. Share your hope in Jesus on social media. Write it and share it on social media!
Did you like a religious quote? Did you like a certain link to a message or a video? Forward it to others on social media. Share with others on social media. Support the social media ministry by subscribing, liking, and sharing. Let us take Jesus to social media so that even while on social media people can meet Jesus. Write it and share it on social media!
May God help us to use social media to His glory for His own purposes, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
