2 Chronicles 8:1 – At the end of twenty years, during which Solomon built the temple of the LORD and his own palace,(NIV)
2 Chronicles 8:1 – At the end of twenty years, Solomon had quite a list of accomplishments. He had: built The Temple of God and his own palace;(Message Bible)
In your leadership have you accomplished anything? The people we lead have goals they are aiming at. They choose leaders to help them accomplish these goals. Organizations have a mission and vision. Leaders are to take the organization towards their vision. Therefore leaders have something to accomplish.
The Bible text we have cited today tells us that after twenty years king Solomon had quite a list of accomplishments. After twenty years Solomon had build God’s temple. After twenty years Solomon had completed building his palace. As a leader, what have you accomplished so far?
2 Chronicles 8:2 – Solomon rebuilt the villages that Hiram had given him, and settled Israelites in them.
After twenty years Solomon had rebuilt villages and settled Israelites in them. After twenty years homeless Israelites had homes built by Solomon’s government. As a leader, what have you accomplished so far?
2 Chronicles 8:3 – Solomon then went to Hamath Zobah and captured it.
After twenty years Solomon had gone to war and captured a strategic city. After twenty years the threat from Hamath Zobah was gone. As a leader, what have you accomplished so far?
2 Chronicles 8:4 – He also built up Tadmor in the desert and all the store cities he had built in Hamath.
2 Chronicles 8:5 – He rebuilt Upper Beth Horon and Lower Beth Horon as fortified cities, with walls and with gates and bars,
2 Chronicles 8:6 – as well as Baalath and all his store cities, and all the cities for his chariots and for his horses—whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon and throughout all the territory he ruled.
Within those twenty years Solomon did a lot of building. Leadership is not only about building but this is among the many things he had done. Infrastructure helps a great deal. He built stores. He built stores for war chariots, this is strategic. He built whatever he desired. That means he had desires or a vision and he had resources. You can only build if you have desires or vision and resources. As a leader, what have you accomplished so far?
The chapter goes on to show the religious progress that Solomon made. The sacrifices he offered. The religious regulations he followed. It wasn’t just building. As a leader, what have you accomplished so far?
The chapter also tells us about how he engaged people. Enemies were made slaves. Israelites were not made slaves according to God’s word. That means in twenty years of his leadership, he did not go against God’s word. Has your leadership been faithful to God’s word and will? As a leader, what have you accomplished so far?
2 Chronicles 8:11 – Solomon brought Pharaoh’s daughter up from the City of David to the palace he had built for her, for he said, “My wife must not live in the palace of David king of Israel, because the places the ark of the LORD has entered are holy.”
In twenty years Solomon had properly settled his family. His wife, of course one of his seven hundred wives, had a palace where she lived. He made sure his family and where they live will not upset the God given rules. As leaders develop other people and organizations, they should also remember their families. There should be family accomplishments. As a leader, what have you accomplished so far?
2 Chronicles 8:16 – All Solomon’s work was carried out, from the day the foundation of the temple of the LORD was laid until its completion. So the temple of the LORD was finished.
Solomon completed his projects. He didn’t start projects and left them unfinished. Whatever he started he finished. That means he only started when he had resources to finish. In Solomon’s twenty years of leadership there wasn’t an incomplete project. As a leader, what have you accomplished so far?
2 Chronicles 8:17 – Then Solomon went to Ezion Geber and Elath on the coast of Edom.
2 Chronicles 8:18 – And Hiram sent him ships commanded by his own men, sailors who knew the sea. These, with Solomon’s men, sailed to Ophir and brought back four hundred and fifty talents of gold, which they delivered to King Solomon.
At the end of twenty years, Solomon had brought a lot of Gold to Israel. He sought expertise out of the country. He went outside his comfort zone in order to get the gold. What he couldn’t find within, he went out to look for it. As a leader, what have you accomplished so far?
Solomon had wisdom from God. Any leader who is faithful to God, will get wisdom from God. Solomon was organized and leaders can also be organized. Solomon set out to accomplish a variety of things and leaders can also be intentional about making achievements. As a leader, what have you accomplished so far?
Solomon didn’t achieve everything in the first a hundred days or first year. These things took twenty years. Leaders need time. Don’t forget, dear leaders, that twenty years are made of today and each day that passes. Accomplish small steps daily and in twenty years or whatever time, you will have accomplishments. As a leader, what have you accomplished so far?
May God bless my leadership as He blessed Solomon. After sometime, may historians be able to enumerate my achievements. May God make it possible for you and for me, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
