He Will Be Our Peace

Micah 5:5
And he will be our peace
when the Assyrians invade our land
and march through our fortresses.
We will raise against them seven shepherds,
even eight commanders,

Peace means there is no threat. Peace means other aspects of life can be attended to freely. Peace means no fear. Peace means the issues are settled. Peace also means the enemy is subdued or destroyed. How do we get peace?

Peace between nations. Peace between races and tribes. Peace between political parties. Peace between rivalries and competitors. Peace among family members who have been brewing endless grudges. Peace between married couples. Peace between parents and children. Peace with your past of failure and regret. Peace of mind and even peace with God. How do we get this peace?

Assyrians were enemies of Israel. Assyrians almost obliterated northern Israel from history. Assyrians were ruthless. Israelites feared Assyrians. When Micah comes to give the prophecy that Jesus will be born in Bethlehem and that Jesus will be a great powerful King, people got excited. In our text today, Micah tells the Israelites that Assyria has made peace to be elusive in Israel, but when Jesus comes, He will be the peace of Israel. He will be our peace!

He will be our peace means, He will provide all that we need in order to have peace. He will be our peace means no threat facing us can survive in His presence. He will be our peace means it is He who will face our threats and not us. He will be our peace!

He will be our peace means my stress becomes His stress. He will be our peace means that when I am overwhelmed with guilt and lack peace with God because of sins, He will remove my guilt by forgiving me and praying for me before God the Father. He will be our peace means when I lack He provides. He will be our peace means He will make our enemies either fear us or lose interest in pursuing us or He will destroy them. He will be our peace!

When you invite Jesus into your life, He becomes your source of peace and protector from that which takes away peace. May He be our peace today, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
