Genesis 4:26
Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh.
At that time people began to call on the name of the LORD.
This verse is written approximately two hundred and fifty years after the birth of Cain. When Cain was born the earth had fewer people. They all accepted the existence of God from Adam and Eve’s testimony. It was not about faith, it was a reality they all knew about.
From the testimony of Adam and Eve, God was so real and close. No one doubted. It was obvious that everyone belonged to God and God participated in human affairs.
As the population grew, people spread further, and as time passed by things changed. Sin caused some people to doubt God and His care. Others questioned His existence. Others became indifferent to the things of God.
Consequently, society became divided into two. Those who actively related with God and those who didn’t. This distinction is what led to the best discovery ever!
When Seth son of Adam gave birth to Enosh, human beings discovered the need to be distinct worshippers of God. Human beings who believed in God decided to identify with God. They identified themselves by the name of God. They set themselves apart from others and started public group worship.
Genesis 4:26
Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh.
At that time people began to call on the name of the LORD.
The prevailing circumstances made it necessary to have public worship that distinguishes God’s people from others. The need for public group worship that identifies God’s people became the best discovery that anyone can make at all times. This discovery was based on the conviction that relating to God is a good thing.
They must have noticed that when you relate to God, He makes your life better and more fulfilling. They discovered their need for God. They made public worship an opportunity to call others to worship their God.
The people came together to public worship out of a possible collective realization that God is the only refuge they can turn to. Whatever triggered the need for public worship led to a great discovery that we need to publicly identify with God. It was also a discovery that you can disagree with others on how they relate and perceive God. You do not have to be like others.
Have you discovered the value of God in your life? Have you discovered that nothing is impossible with God? Have you discovered you don’t need to fight your enemies, God who promised to do it actually does it for you? Have you discovered that God is so good?
Have you discovered that if invited through prayer God can come into your life? Have you discovered that your financial life gets secure if you return tithes and offerings? Have you discovered that if you don’t break the entire twenty-four hours of the Sabbath your six days of work get blessed?
Have you discovered that it is wiser to take the marriage risk with a believer who fears God than a glamorous amorous partner who fears no one nor God? Have you discovered that prayers even when unanswered have a way of relieving stress and introducing a peace that passes all understanding?
Have you discovered the value of God in every aspect of your life? May this life-changing discovery happen to us daily and draw us closer to God, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
