There Was Silence In Heaven 

Revelation 8:1 (NIV) – When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

Revelation chapter six tells us that Jesus the Lamb starts opening the seven seals. The seven seals representing the different characteristics of the time period from when Jesus ascended to heaven and when He will return. The seven seals are followed by seven trumpets. After the seven seals and before the seven trumpets, there is silence in heaven!

The seven trumpets represent God’s judgment. A judgment that condemns the wicked and is in favor of the righteous. This judgment is bad news for sinners and best news for saints. There is a half hour silence before this judgement!

The time of the seven trumpets is a terrible time on earth. Great disasters and suffering. Deeply scary moments, yet, the saints will be preserved by God. The trumpets will be a problem for sinners but Saints will be preserved by God. Before the trumpets sound, there is half hour silence in heaven!

Silence of anticipation. God will not be silent forever. After the silence, God will execute the judgment. There was silence in heaven!

During the silence, the prayers of the saints are presented before God. During the silence the altar of incense is active as prayers are offered for saints. Silence doesn’t mean we are forgotten. Silence means something we don’t know for now, is being done in our favor. There was silence in heaven!

If God is silent, don’t feel abandoned. He is working behind the scenes in your favor. Silence is anticipation for the next big thing. There was silence in heaven!

The wicked should not feel victorious because God is silent. The wicked should not feel emboldened to continue sinning because God is silent. Do not misunderstand silence as a validation of you harming God’s people and God’s church. In silence you seem victorious but after the silence is your doom. Watch out when saints that you frustrate are seemingly abandoned by God. After the silence they win, you lose. During the silence you have a very brief opportunity to repent. There was silence in heaven!

Have you prayed and all you have is silence in heaven? You have not been abandoned. After the silence is judgment in your favor. After the silence justice will prevail. After the silence you will be vindicated. Remain faithful during the silence.

Dear God, prepare us for eternity. Dear God, forgive us for hurting your people and your church. Dear God, help us not to misunderstand your silence. Keep us faithful and safe all the way to eternity. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
