1 Chronicles 8:13 – and Beriah and Shema, who were heads of families of those living in Aijalon and who drove out the inhabitants of Gath.
1 Chronicles 8:40 – The sons of Ulam were brave warriors who could handle the bow. They had many sons and grandsons—150 in all. All these were the descendants of Benjamin.
First Chronicles chapter eight provides the genealogy of Saul the Benjamite. This is Saul the first king of Israel. The genealogy is a list of family members related to him. The genealogy legitimizes him as an Israelite by giving evidence of his relationships.
A genealogy is a list of names of people who are related to each other. It explains how they are related to each other. The genealogy traces ancestry.
As the historian traces the ancestry of Saul the first king of Israel, he mentions names of key family members. As he mentions the names, he would also mention something outstanding that a person did if any. Many names in the genealogy have nothing outstanding that can be said about them.
In this genealogy of Saul the first king of Israel, only two families have something outstanding mentioned about them. What makes them outstanding? We also would like to be as outstanding as them, do that we don’t disappear in the statistics of just being a name.
1 Chronicles 8:13 – Beriah and Shema were family chiefs who lived at Aijalon. They drove out the citizens of Gath.(Message Bible)
Beriah and Shema stood out for driving out citizens of Gath. Did you know that Goliath the giant came from Gath? Yet these two chiefs were daring enough to go and drive out the citizens of Gath.
1 Samuel 17:4 – A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span.
Beriah and Shema stood out for driving out the citizens of Gath. This was a risky move. You will only stand out if you can take positive risks. They were daring enough to go to war with a whole community and drive them out. You will only stand out of the crowd, if you are daring!
1 Chronicles 8:40 – Ulam’s sons were warriors well known as archers. They had lots of sons and grandsons—at least 150. These were all in Benjamin’s family tree.(Message Bible)
Another person who stood out in the entire family tree was Ulam. His son’s were archers. They shot arrows using bows. They were sharp shooters. Anyone could shoot arrows but these were sharp shooters. Sharp shooting takes a lot of practice. You can’t stand out unless you’re practicing many times more than everyone else.
If you practice you become perfect. The more you practice the higher the accuracy. For you to stand out in whatever you do, your level of practice must be higher than that of the people around you.
Practice the music instrument more than others. Practice playing the game more than others. Practice solving the math problems more than others. Practice the saving culture more than others. Read more books than others. Practice public speaking more than others. You will stand out if you practice more than others. It may not happen instantly but it won’t be long, you will stand out!
In the entire genealogy, those who stood out are those who took risks, they were daring to drive citizens of Gath away. In the entire genealogy the other group that stood out are those who out of practice, had become best sharp shooters. Those who practice more than others will always stand out!
Are you daring? Can you take risks for a good course? This is the only way to stand out. Can you practice repeatedly what needs to be done? Can you practice more than others? This is the only way to stand out. May God help us in whatever we do that we will be daring and that we will practice more than others, May we stand out, in Jesus’s name, Amen!

When the opportunity for someone to stand up and speak up presents itself today, let it be you.
If you’re in a room for a meeting, a presentation or a brainstorming session, don’t wait to be asked to speak. Speaking up raises your visibility and shows leadership.
But the only way to get better at speaking is by speaking. You can not learn to swim by reading a book. It would help if you got wet. The first time, your voice may shake, but it will get better with practice.
Speaking will do so much for your career and life than you will ever imagine.
Thank you my prof. for this encouragement 🙏
Hallelujah!
To stand out it takes effort from doing the ordinary to the extraordinary. God help us to be daring to take an extra effort 🙏
